Kangana Ranaut clarified that popular filmmaker Shekhar Kapur approached her to play the lead role of an 85 Year old woman in his upcoming film.

Kangana, who has mesmerized audience and raised her standards with her acting in Queen, Tanu Weds Manu and Tanu Weds Manu Returns said that this role that she was offered is a challenging one.

She further said that this film will be a challenging one in her career and the movie is still in the talks. Though no final confirmation came from neither of the sides, Kangana is keen on doing this role, said sources. This film will not be “Paani” that Shekhar will be directing.

National Award winning actress Kangana, who is known for her versatile acting said that she is interested in doing elderly roles and mother characters.

Shekar Kapur’s interest towards film shall be condemned. He is not only a director but also a producer, writer and even worked as a co-director after delivering super hit Mr.India. His film Bandit Queen that released in 1994 fetched him the National Awards for Direction that year.

He who always admired Kangana’s acting once said ‘Queen has a fresh golden heart, at the centre of which lies a consistent fluid n convincing performance by Kangana Ranaut” after watching Queen.

Post Queen, Kangana was titled the next Vidya Balan in choosing a script and playing a role. I am afraid, the title won’t even stay for more than two months, as her latest Revolver Rani is an extremely inspid and boring film which neither has a point nor any noteworthy performance.

Sai Kabir’s debut film starts off with very interesting title sequence and a song. Set in Madhya Pradesh, Alka Singh (Kangana Ranaut) is a powerful lady with guts and guns. With a history of killing her husband as a punishment for his infidelity, Alka is popular as a ferocious and ruthless woman. Alka falls in love with Rohan Kapoor, a Bollywood actor who wants to make it big in the B-town. Alka makes him her male concubine and has a soft corner for him. Rohan has his own plan of making his career using Alka’s money. In another thread, the leader of the constituency Bhanu Bhaiyya (Zakhir Hussain) wants to thwart Alka as she had killed his brother in the past. The rest of the story is about where her love/lust story leads to and what does the politics cost her.

The biggest problem of the movie is the highly ambitious script which tries to succeed in too many areas but fails miserably in each of the attempted area. The writing tries its hand at some situational comedy but it doesn’t work. It just doesn’t work. The director also tries some political drama and sketching. That doesn’t work either. The movie also delves into a women-centric cum motherhood zone and that fails too.

Except for Piyush Mishra, all the other characters were utterly wasted. The pointless characters and lack of strength in the characterization made the actors performance void. The role of Alka Singh has been written so incoherently, which destroys the film completely. Vir Das gets monotonous after a while. There are hardly a couple of scenes that would engage you and everything else in the film is just a nonsensical long story put forward. The soundtrack is absurd too.

Lastly, the film is an extremely painful experience to sit through such a purposeless story where the director didn’t know whether to concentrate on bloodshed, humor, politics, motherhood or Kangana’s apparently-funny-but-irritable costumes!

Revolver Rani will make sure your head will revolve! A tough competitor to a masterpiece like Rajjo, indeed.

Director Vikas Bahl was accused of copyright infringement. Writer Abhigyan Jha, who originally wrote a script for the film ‘Phir Zindagi’ in 2006, accused that Vikas has lifted the entire content of his yet to be released film to make it into a movie called Queen.

As per the accusation, the writer claimed that Vikas Bahl was shown the shelved film in 2006 from where he got inspired to make a story of a girl going to her honeymoon alone. While Abhigyan states that some parts alter from his version, few scenes have been directly lifted from Phir Zindagi.

The producer of Phir Zindagi, Parvati Balagopalan, also claimed that they feel betrayed by this act. The miffed Abhigyan has now decided to take the matters into his own hands and take action.

Vikas Bahl, on the other hand, has requested people to first watch his film and then watch Phir Zindagi to compare and then accuse him of the copyrighting assault.
There are more and more such accusations popping up in the recent times, especially with the young film makers who are accused of lifting the content from either somebody’s literary works or older films that have not seen the light of the day in terms of a decent release. Another film that was exposed to this accusation in the recent times was Bhoothnath Returns, where a writer accused the director of the film to have directed lifted the content from his literary works. The story was told as it was written by the writer way before and no prior consent was taken before doing so.
