Kangana also made a funny statement after that

“After watching Revolver Rani, no one would want to marry me” she said, making the press laugh.

The actress who is known for choosing unconventional roles on screen right from the beginning of her career, always dares to challenge herself with one level high when it comes to performances.

“After an overwhelming response to Queen, Revolver Rani is special to me, the hopes are high. It is an unusual film right from its concept, story, treatment etc,” she said.

Kangana is currently shooting for the film at Chambal, where the crime rate is atrociously high.

“If I was aware that there are people on whom two – three murder cases are there, people have guns…I would not have done it. I wuldnt have taken the risk to go there” she stated.

The actress shared a scary incident that happening while filming, when a convoy of about four to five cars carrying the film crew and a police van were stopped by 12 to 15 men armed with guns and knives.

“The dacoits wanted to pose for pictures with me and refused to let the car pass. Kabir (Sai Kabir the director) managed to reason with them and succeeded” she smiled.

Usha Uthup sings for Kangana in Revolver Rani

Iconic pop sensation Usha Uthup will now lend her voice for Kangana Ranaut in her upcoming film, Revolver Rani. Kangana will once again play a very different role – of a female gangster in the movie. Riding high with her recent success with Queen, Kangana is raring to go. Uthup will be singing that significant title track for the film.
Usha-Uthup

“Usha Ji has sung the title track of Revolver Rani. We wanted someone who had a husky deep voice and who better than Ushaji to sing. It is for the first time that she is singing for Kangana” said the sources from the film unit.

Kangana Ranaut, who started her career itself playing variety lead roles as a female protagonist, loves challenges. She is one of the very few actresses in the Bollywood present day who dares to surprise. The actress recently spoke to the press at the success party of Queen that she is not very high about being on the number one spot. A struggle of eight years has taught her many lessons to stay grounded.

Meanwhile, the movie Revolver Rani is directed by Sai Kabir and stars Vir Das, Piyush Mishra, Zakir Hussain and Pankaj Saraswat in prominent roles alongside Kangana. The film that is currently in production will see some vital scenes filmed.

Kangana fails on the ramp at WLIFW finale

The queen of hearts and the ‘fashion’ showstopper, Kangana Ranaut somehow could not keep up that reputation in the real sense. The actress, who walked on the ramp for the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week representing designer Namrata Joshipuri, quite could not handle the outfit.

Kangana

Ranaut was caught being uncomfortable in the beautiful off shoulder long black evening gown, even stopped mid-way on the ramp to adjust her outfit, surprising many. The media was not far off to capture the moment. Later, Kangana did some damage control with her apology and being not on the mark –“I feel her show and collection were brilliant but I feel bad that I let her down” she shared, while talking to the press right after the show. A close call surely, from saving the reputation being called the showstopper in the film Fashion.

Designer Namrata Joshipuri also added to being supportive for what had transpired on the ramp – “Stuff like this happensbut it is okay.I am very happy that she walked the ramp for me and handled it very well. She is beyond all these small things”

The grand finale was a stately event that saw some high octane live music performance and jazzy neon lights that added to the effect. Namrata presented her collection titled Electron, which was closely inspired with concepts such as artificial intelligence and brain mapping.

Meanwhile, Kanagan Ranaut is on a new high after the humongous success of Queen. The actress is now loaded with offers and is busy trying to choose what matters.

Kangana Ranaut replaces Vidya Balan in Sujoy Ghosh film

The reigning ‘queen’ of Bollywood, Kangana is now giving cold feet to her peers in the industry. The super talented actress will now replace another winner, Vidya Balan in the upcoming film to be directed by Sujoy Ghosh.

Confirms the actress with IANS; “I would be doing the film with Sujoy. I am excited about it. It is a suspense thriller and beyond this I cannot reveal anything”. Tentatively titled ‘Durga Rani Singh’, the film will see Kangana playing the role of a 35 year old mother to a 14 year old girl with a paralytic condition, which, going by the description, seems to be a challenging one.

Kangana-Vidya

Earlier Vidya was to play this role but the actress had issues with the dates. Kangana is the sure shot replacement to such a story. Going by the popularity of Queen, many directors are now eying closely on Ranaut to carry off powerful women backed roles.

Vidya-Kangana

“I am very happy with the response to ‘Queen’. We had not expected this kind of appreciation…we are overwhelmed. We are thankful to the audience for this love for the film” she said, with a joyful tone.

Portraying strong roles comes as a niche to Kangana, right from the start. Her debut in Gangster saw her playing a full blown alcoholic and delivering some kick ass performance. Kangana then played another mind blowing role of a showstopper model in Madhur Bandarkar’s Fashion, walking away with a National Award for the same.

Looks like the Queen is on a roll!

Kangana Ranaut is unfazed with the success of Queen

Kangana at Queen success meet

Queen may look like a life changing film for Kangana Ranaut but the talented actress is neither high not distracted with this sudden surge of uprising in her career. When asked as to how she felt about the film catapulting her image to great heights, Kangana was surprisingly calm and unfazed about it all. She stated that she is only trying to make her identity and doesn’t aspire to win “flavor of the season” tag.

“I am a self made person. Whatever i have achieved till date, i have struggled a lot for it” she said.

Kangana in queen

Kangana, who made a scintillating debut with the film Gangster in 2005, caught the attention of the film critics and the audience with her impeccable performance with the very first film. Her curly hair became the new fashion statement and her voice, a new fad. Then followed films like Woh Lamhe, Life in a Metro, Fashion, Once upon a time in Mumbai and Tanu weds Manu – all seeing the very best of Ranaut. However, its the latest film Queen that set a milestone apart for the actress, collecting about Rs 50 crore at the Box Office, making Kangana one of the finest in Indian Cinema.

Talking about the ‘Queen’ tag given by the audience and the media, Kangana expressed that such a tag is given to different actresses every month, so she doesn’t want any such tag.

Kangana won the coveted National Award for her mind blowing performance in the film Fashion. She will soon be seen playing an interesting role in her next film with an equally interesting title, Revolver Rani.

“I have been struggling from the last eight years and where i have reached today, i am still not the flavor of the season and i don’t aspire to be one. I do my job honestly. I do different kind of work and i am trying to make my own identity” signed off the Queen of hearts.

Queen Review

Sometimes, even if an already seen story is told in a distinctive style, you would tend to say that the new one is a coincidence rather than a copy. Queen also has resemblance to two good films of 2012, but is unique is its own way.

Rani (Kangana Ranaut) is a simple homely girl in Delhi pursuing Home Science. Vijay (Raj Kummar Rao) is head over heels in love with her and she eventually falls to him. Vijay moves to London, but returns as a changed man who feels that the Salwar Kameez clad Rani doesn’t match to his status anymore. When the pre-wedding celebrations are in full swing, Vijay breaks the marriage.  Rani is broken and she decides to go to Paris to get some respite from the heart-break. Her experiences in the new found world and how she deals with the broken marriage forms the rest of the story.

The scenes in the first half of remind of Cocktail and you cannot stop relating the equation of Kangana-Lisa Haydon to Diana Penty – Deepika.  The plot is also similar. However, Vikas Bahl has written the role of Rani in a very raw and natural way which connects much better. The second half reminds us of another movie of 2012 again, and that’s English Vinglish.  We have the sweet international friends the protagonist finds in the new country. Here also, we have one gora hitting on her. However, again the writing of the role comes to the rescue making it different by the things taking a natural flow.

The first and foremost thing one would talk about once you exit the hall is Kangana’s performance.  She is phenomenal as Rani. The transformation from the naivety to wisdom is so gradual and subtle, and that requires great skill.  Rani’s resilience is inspiring for many women, to say the least.  Lisa Haydon gets a substantial role unlike Rascals which even had Kangana doing noting but wearing sleazy outfits. All these talented actors need is good roles, which they got through Queen. Raj Kummar Rao plays the self-flattering and the hypocrite so well that you even start hating him.

Some scenes are extremely well-written conveying a lot symbolically.  For example, at a coffee shop when Vijay tells Rani that he is going to break the marriage, she gets panicky and rubs her hands against the cell-phone. When she exits, he brushes the mehendi particles off from the table.  A handful of some more such impressive scenes made it more intriguing.

However, apart from the frequent resemblances to Cocktail and English Vinglish, the other drawback is the pace. The movie crawls at a pace of a tortoise, with hardly the story moving forward.  Amit Trivedi’s music and Bobby’s camera work are adequate.

Queen is a definitely a one-time watch for Kangana’s performance and a must watch for women to get inspired from Rani’s resilience.

Emraan Hashmi – The rise of a serial kisser

How rarely does this phenomenon occur where a 23 yr old working as an assistant director for a film, becomes the male lead of the sequel and the re sequel of that film? Yes, we are talking about Emraan Hashmi who assisted Vikram Bhatt during Raaz and later became a poster boy of the Bhatt camp for a decade now.

Though Emraan debuted in Footpath, he came to the limelight with Anurag Basu’s Murder where he played a role that was oozed with confidence when it came to the steamy scenes. Emraan as a womanizer on screen shocked the nation by showing no qualms in doing sex scenes in Murder. The 13 kisses in the film were a record that time, and also started the trend of bold movies in Bollywood.  Making out on a terrace in that black silky blanket was like an unofficial advertisement of what Emraan’s further movies would be

murder

Murder was followed with Tumsa Nahin Dekha where he teamed up again with Anurag Basu. The first trailer of this film had Emraan bowled by Diya Mirza at a busstop and immediately giving a lip-lock.  And that gained him the title ‘Serial Kisser’.   The movie however bombed at the box office.

zeher

Zeher was Emraan’s fourth movie and the birth of a genius director from the Bhatt camp, Mohit Suri. Emraan played a cop and was paired with Shamita Shetty and Udita Goswami.  The illicit affair aspect was present in Zeher too where Emraan is in a secret relationship with Udita. The songs of Zeher especially ‘Woh Lamhe’, and ‘Agar Tum Mil Jaao’ are extremely popular chart busters.  A new beginning of unstoppable hit music numbers of Emraan took off. The next movie of our serial kisser was Aashiq Banaaye Aapne, where the raunchiness climbed up the ramp even more.  The title song became the hottest number of the year visually, and musically too which made Himesh Reshamiyya the topmost composer for few years that followed.  Performance-wise Emraan had nothing new to offer since the Murder days.

aba

His other release in the same year was Chocolate which went unnoticed and his routine performance seemed weaker as he was acting alongside talents like Irrfan Khan and Anil Kapoor.  The next film was Kalyug, where he played a supporting role of a punk with a heart of gold.  Kalyug was Emraan’s second film with Mohit Suri. With an interesting role and relatively better performance, he climbed another step in becoming a good actor.

kalyug

Just after he made his presence felt in Kalyug, Emraan came with up with two forgettable movies which again put him in the womanizer zone and offered nothing more than a bunch of smooches.  Jawaani Deewani and Aksar damaged whatever the little amount of hope he created from Kalyug.

aksar

In 2006, Gangster came as a blessing to him where he portrays a cop in disguise.  He utilized the opportunity well to show the sleek switch from the lover to the scheming cop towards the climax.  The next significant movie where we could see a groomed actor in him was in Awarapan, again directed by Mohit Suri.  The problem however was he intermittently did some terrible movies like Good Boy Bad Boy and Killer which focused only on banking upon his serial killer image, which obviously failed at the box-office.  Not surprisingly, the ones which had substantial characterization like in Jannat worked well.

jannat2

A milestone in his career which put a stop to the inconsistency of how his movies fared at box office was Once Upon A Time In Mumbai.  It was a very important event of his career, as he passed the acid test. The acid test was performing in par with Ajay Devgan, and he came out in flying colors.   His performance as Shoaib was loved and triggered some wonderful roles in the subsequent years.  Though his ease and expertise in enacting bold bedroom scenes was continued to be used, it was given a lower priority than the characterization.  His role as Abraham in Dirty Picture was well-written and performed flawlessly.  He created a space for himself in the movie when the movie comprised gems like Vidya Balan and Naseeruddin Shah. In Murder 2 also, he was impressive as the suspended cop trying to unveil the mystery murders.

murder 2

In the 2012 and 2013 releases, he delivered some amazing performances in three completely contrasting roles. In Ek Thi Daayan which came from the Vishal Bhardwaj camp, he played a magician Bobo, who is suspicious of women with a long plait as Daayans. In the caper comedy Ghanchakkar, he worked with the very talented Raj Kumar Gupta. His displayed some commendable histrionics as Sanjay, who loses his memory after a bank robbery.  In Dibakar Banerjee’s Shanghai, Emraan gave his career-best performance as Joginder in a completely deglamourized but a wonderful role.

Shanghai

The story of Emraan’s rise is a great illustration of persistence and hard-work. Emraan has come a long way from an almost B-grade hero to a bankable actor of Bollywood! The other factors which contributed to his success are: Music and Mohit Suri. Emraan is the only actor who could get numerous best-of-the-best music tracks in the last ten years. There is at least one number from each of his movies that top the charts whenever they release. Mohit Suri has been phenomenal in giving Emraan roles that would bring out a better actor out of him. From Zeher to Kalyug to Awarapan to Raaz2 to Crook to Murder 2, he has been the fuel.  Their 7th venture together is Hamaari Adhuri Kahaani which also stars great talents like Vidya Balan and Raj Kumar Rao.

ghanchakkar

His other movies to look forward in 2014 are Ungli in Karan Johar’s production and Kunal Deshmukh’s Shaatir.
