Two States is the super hit Bollywood film starring Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor. The film is now being remade in Telugu with Adivi Sesh and Shivani Rajasekhar in the leads. Lakshya Productions is the production house that is bankrolling the project and Venkat Reddy is the newcomer making his directional debut with the film. The film also marks the debut of Shivani Rajasekhar in Tollywood. The makers are now planning to bring the first look of the film for Vijaya Dasami.

The film is tipped to be a beautiful, cute and romantic entertainer that has everything in place. The makers completed four schedules of the movie in Kolkata and two schedules in Hyderabad. The output so far is satisfying for the makers. Very soon, a wedding song is going to be shot in Hyderabad and surrounding areas.

The film also has Rajat Kapoor, Bhagya Sri, Lissy, Aditya Menon, Rahul Rama Krishna, Priyadarshi, Vidyullekha Raman, Hema, Uttej and others.

The Bollywood movie ‘2 States’ minted money at the Box Office. Multiple reasons were responsible for the same.

Firstly, it is an adaptation of the bestseller by the same name written by Chetan Bhagat. This ensured that the ones who have read the book and loved it would throng the theaters to see how the movie had turned out.

On the other hand, those who hadn’t read the book went there to see what exactly the buzz was all about.

Either ways, it was a win-win situation for the makers as the film went on to earn in excess of 100 Crores and counting..

Now, if rumours are anything to go by, then ‘2 States’ will be remade in Telugu.

That’s right! Sources in the industry have been buzzing with the news that well-known producer PVP has bought the remake rights for the film.

However, there has been no official confirmation from the producer’s side.

Also, the bigger news is that Mahesh Babu is rumoured to be playing the lead in this movie.

Given the Pan Indian appeal of the story, 2 States’ Telugu remake is expected to earn millions at the Box Office since it has none other than Prince himself in the lead who will fit the character of ‘Krish’ perfectly.

Media couldn’t help asking her take on on-screen kissing,to which she replied,”Town and Alia is happy for this success at beginning of her career. Speaking about her role in the film she said that Kissing and romantic scenes are best part of the movie and we worked hard to bring that best from both of us. Moreover,my parents are happy to see the way Arjun and I pulled off the kiss onscreen. It’s no big deal,actually!”

After earning an impressive Rs. 12.42 crore at the ticket windows on Friday, Alia Bhatt-Arjun Kapoor-starrer 2 States continued to earn moolah at the box office through the first weekend of its release.

The collections further picked up on Sunday to Rs. 13, 51 crore, making a total of Rs. 38.06 crore over the first weekend.

Mixed reviews notwithstanding, there was a lot of buzz around the movie based on a semi-autobiographical novel by Chetan Bhagat by the same name. Bhagat’s track record at the Box Office also had to do something with the success of the film – screen adaptations of his earlier books Kai Po Che and 3 Idiots (a “loose” adaptation of Five Point Someone) went on to mint money.

With the first day collection, 2 States has become the third biggest Bollywood opener this year after Salman Khan’s Jai Ho (Rs 17 crore) and Ranveer Singh-Priyanka Chopra-Arjun Kapoor-starrer Gunday (Rs 16.12 crore).

2 States, reflects the changing lifestyles, aspirations and attitudes of young India.

2 States is a story about a romantic journey of a culturally opposite couple- Krish Malhotra and Ananya Swaminathan. They meet at the IIM-Ahmedabad college and during the program they fall in love. Complications arise after the program comes to an end and they decide to get married. Krish and Ananya belong to two different states of India, a North Indian Punjabi boy from Delhi and Ananya, a Tamillian Brahmin from Chennai. They take a conscious decision; they don’t get married until they parents agree. Everything goes downhill when their parents meet. There is a cultural clash and the parents oppose the wedding. To convert their love story into love marriage, the couple faces a tough battle in front of them. For it is easy to fight and rebel, but much harder to convince. Director Abhishek Varman extracted the best performances from all the actors. Director succeeded in capturing the intensity of emotions that lovers go through, in their journey from love to marriage. Director proved his mettle, being able to conceive scenes with same level of sensitivity and handle the scenes depicting the fractured relationships of father and son and the husband and wife of Malhotra family. The story is paced leisurely and delves deep into the emotional states of the characters.

Director adopted the novel perfectly to the screen and made the visual magic work with his screenplay.

Hussain Dalal’s dialogues are also huge asset for the film.

Krish(Arjun Kapoor) and Ananya(Alia Bhatt) rendered commendable performance. Amiritha Singh, Revathy, Ronit Roy, Shivkumar Subramaniam all have played their roles accurately. Kudos to the Director once again for casting them well.

Binod Pradhan’s Cinematography is good, perfectly captured the festive moods with vibrant colours.

Though the campus life is dramatized, love story shot in the actual campus added to the visual beauty. Many scenes are shot at the actual locations that has been a big plus for the film, giving authenticity.

Music by Shankar, Ehsaan , Loy is amazing and huge asset for the film. Parik and Tubby have given the best background scores perfect for the scenes, enhancing the emotional gravity of the scenes multifold and succeeded in creating the native atmosphere of the place where the story in taking place, be it Chennai , Delhi.
Editing by Namratha Rao is excellent.

Flip side of the story is the reliance on the stereotyped cultural representations of the other. As entire story is based on the cultural clash and prejudices, may be there is nothing much can be done to surpass the typical representation of the south and the north. We do not find the content of the story very fresh as we have seen many other films with similar content and story lines.

Still 2 States is a well-made film with all the ingredients for a passionate romantic love story. Will be well received by both North and South audience.

The entire Bollywood, including writer Chetan Bhagat seems to be under the magical spell of 2 States. Hardly was the film screened for select film fraternity at Mumbai today and the stars took to tweeting all about it. Evidently, Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt have emerged as winners in terms of performance and talent in the film.

#2States movie review: One of the finest movies to come out of the Hindi film industry of late!

Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor come together for the first time in this romantic drama inspired from Chetan Bhagat’s celebrated novel with the same title tomorrow. While the anticipation is high after looking at the promotional material of the movie, the pros and cons of such a subject being transcended are evaluated in equal measure to understand if the output will really turn out to be a commercial entertainer at the box office.

2 States releases precisely at the timing where there are no other major contenders at the tickets counters. That apart, the film stars the young sensation of today who flaunt a heavy fan following thanks to their commendable acting abilities cited in previous projects.

We look at what will really go for the film and what will, not.

North-South Divide

The film is a story about a North Indian boy falling for a South Indian girl. This formula has specifically worked with the Bollywood audience who get a taste of South unseen through the lead cast of the film. Right from the films like Ek Duje Ke Liye to Chennai Express, the North meeting South has worked well as a formula. However, while the earlier films had a dose of comedy aimed directly at the idiosyncrasies of South Indians, 2 States is a novel style narration talking about how the young couple convince the radically opposite elders to accept their proposal to turn into a marriage. The film also has emotional scenes of separation and dramatic touch induced to create a feel of the divide ruling the hearts.

The Star Cast

An interesting combination of Alia and Arjun looks great on screen. This would be the first time the two will be seen romancing each other. The kind of chemistry demonstrated in the trailers, promotional events and the blatant public display of attention should work well with the young audience, who are always profoundly in love with such things.

The older cast flaunting the likes of actors like Ronit Roy, Amrita Singh and Revathy creates an impression of some qualitative performance in store for the movie goers.

Novel to Screen Formula

This is the trickiest part! While Novel style narrations are slow, detailed and bookish, the outcome of such stories being truned into screenplay largely depends on how well the film maker makes use of introducing commercial elements while still retaining the spirit of the main plot. Chetan Bhagat’s earlier book was made into 3 Idiots, a cult movie of sorts that ranks under Bollywood’s best, however, the story was young and dealt all about the miseries of young students with a dash of comedy.

The earlier films into serious romance like ‘The Namesake’ and ‘Raincoat’ were told in an arty form that carried more of non-commercial elements.

The possibility of 2 States turning into a commercial blockbuster mostly depends on the lone warrior called adapted screenplay!

Pre-release Hype

Now, this part acts more like a devil to any film. The pre-release marketing of 2 States has been ‘medium’, unlike the other films where the trailers are all hyped up for commercial acceptance. The first look, the song trailers and the film trailers are all simple, catchy and yet intriguing. This should work well in favour of the audience turn out the first day.

2 States stars Arjun Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Revathy, Amrita Singh and Ronit Roy. The film has been directed by Abhishek Varman.

The music has been composed by Shankar Ehsaan Loy and produced by Karan Johar and Sajid Nadiawala under Dharma – Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment.

The ace film maker who was instrumental in introducing many stars to Bollywood was particularly in awe of Alia’s co-star, Arjun Kapoor, when he watched the special screening of 2 States in Mumbai recently.

Mahesh Bhatt took to Twitter showering praises for Arjun Kapoor’s commendable acting, calling him the Star of the film and not Alia. This is a new high for young talent like Arjun, who plays a rather different role in the film from that of his previous ones.

2 States, is lot in the news for its screen adaptation tastefully transcended from the popular Novel penned by Chetan Bhagat. Upcoming heroine Alia Bhatt shared her views on doing nude scenes with PTI today. The actress who will be seen playing an interest role in Abhishek Varman’s 2 States expressed that she has no reservations when it comes to kissing on screen or wearing a bikini.

However, Alia is very reserved about the concept of nudity on screen.

“I feel you have certain idea of how you want to be like, how you want to lead your career path. I don’t think any one person will have the same ideologies. If it’s important for the script I will do it but if I feel it is unnecessary then I will express my opinion” she said about intimate scenes on screen.

The actress brushed away the willingness to go nude for a film. “I would never go ahead and do a nude scene as it is something that I am not comfortable doing. As a person I will not be able to go for it. I think it comes from the way you are brought up, your ideologies and how you want people to look at you” she expressed.

Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor are said to have done enough intimate scenes in 2 States that will release on 18th of this month.

“2 States starts where most rom-com end, it starts with them already being in a relationship and want to get married. So to justify the fact that they are together for a while…there is intimacy between them. They are modern, forward thinking and at the same time very cultured and cater to conservative family. You see kissing for three seconds in the trailer and that is how it is in the film”

Alia also admitted to some awkwardness while kissing Arjun for the scene –“There is awkwardness. I feel it is acting at the end of the day. He is playing Krish and I am playing Anaya and we are not Arjun and Alia when we are doing that scene. “she stated.

As part of the promotions, the makers have unveiled the trailer of the new song from the film 2 States; Chaandaniya.

Composed by Shankar Ehsaan Loy and sung by K Mohan and Yashita Sharma, the song is a soulful rendition of love, separation and pain that comes with it. The song features the lead pair Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, apparently separated due to their jobs and newer avenues in life. Alia looks cute as a South Indian girl while Arjun looks like a lost writer, missing his beloved.

Chaandaniya is a simple rendition that covers all aspects of drifting apart in love. The music lovers will admire the effort.
