His choice of films are very interesting to watch and he knows what he is doing and what he is going to do. He is now coming to the theatres with “Dear Comrade”, directed by Bharat Kamma which has Rashmika Mandanna as the female lead. This film is produced by the blockbuster production house Mythri Movie Makers and Big Ben Productions. Let’s see how it works on us as it is releasing into theatres today.

Story

Dear Comrade Review
Dear Comrade Review

Bobby (Vijay Deverakonda) is a college student with communist ideology. He fights for the students and hates political parties. He falls in love with Lilly (Rashmika Mandanna), a woman cricketer. She always wanted him to be peaceful but his anger issues always make her fear. They both part their ways due to his behavior and Bobby goes on a soul searching a way to better himself and know himself. He returns to Hyderabad and gets to know some hard facts about Lilly and starts his journey as Comrade. What are the facts? What happened to Lilly? How Bobby fought for her?

Cast and Performance

Vijay Deverakonda has done a fabulous job. After Arjun Reddy, this role is a cakewalk for him as both are similar in many ways. Rashmika Mandanna is superb. She has made the biggest choice of her career for the best role of her career in the form of Lilly. Suhas is good. Sruthi Ramachandran is nice. All other actors have done superb work in their roles.

Writing Department

The story of Dear Comrade is superb but the screenplay is a bit lengthy and the dialogues are written well.

Technical Departments

Justin Prabhakaran makes his Telugu debut as music director and he has given a chartbuster album for Dear Comrade. He scored a fantastic background score for the movie. The cinematography by Sujith Sarang is superb and the visuals complement the happenings in the movie well. The editing by Sreejith Sarang is fine. The production values of Mythri movie makers is grand.

Highlights

  • Vijay Deverakonda as Bobby
  • Rashmika Mandanna as Lilly
  • Music by Justin Prabhakaran
  • Cinematography
  • Story and Direction

Minus

  • Screenplay
  • Length of the film
  • Slow Pace

Verdict

Dear Comrade is the story of a “fight for the right of an individual”. This is an emotional journey of two characters who go through some disturbing incidents in their life. Director and writer Bharat Kamma has chosen a good story but he made it a lengthy one. Arjun Reddy, too is a lengthy movie but the length never bothered for that one but it bothers the audience here. The first half of the movie has set up the mood of the film and the second half explores the emotional aspect. The movie becomes very emotional towards the end with a message for the audience. This film has many similarities with Arjun Reddy, the way Vijay behaves, his anger issues and his love for the girl in his life and his friends, his no care attitude, etc. But what makes this movie different from that is the comrade and the emotional aspects of the movie. Most of the film runs on a very normal way which neither bores you nor entertains but the highs are very well placed in the screenplay. To be honest, Director Bharat Kamma stayed true to his story even though the comparisons with Arjun Reddy are inevitable. To sum up, Dear Comrade has its moments to entertain you this weekend.

Movie Name Aame
Cast Amala Paul, Ramya Subramanian, Sri Ranjani
Director Rathnakumar
Music Director Praveen K L
Cinematography Vijay Karthik Kannan
Producer Rambabu Kalluri and Vijay Moraveneni

Aadai is a 2019 Indian Tamil-language thriller film directed by Rathna Kumar, who earlier directed Meyaadha Maan and produced by Viji Subramaniyan under the production banner V Studios. The film released in Telugu with the title Aame. Sri Ranjani played Amala Paul’s mother role. The film unit promoted the movie well and it released today after getting delayed. Else, the movie was supposed to hit the screens yesterday itself. Check out the review of the film here.

Story:

Kamini (Amala Paul), after getting drunk heavily at a friend’s birthday party wakes up the next day in an old building with no clothes on her body. How did this happen? Who did this to her? What happened that night to her? Forms the story of the movie.

Performances:

Amala Paul is truly an asset for this film. We can say that has carried the entire movie on her own with her engaging and outstanding performance. Despite getting a challenging role, Amala Paul has pulled it off with ease and she has also showcased variations in her character in a beautiful way. Ramya Subramanian also delivered an honest performance and added more beauty for the film. She also looked gorgeous in the movie on the screen and gave competition to Amala Paul. Sri Ranjani acted naturally in the movie. The rest of the actors also made their presence felt.

Writing Department:

Rathnakumar has prepared an interesting script for this film and the way he has narrated it is outstanding. He keeps the audience engaged from the start to the end and will definitely impress the audience with his pace of the narration. He has executed the complex story in a decent and beautiful way.

Technical Aspects:

Production values by Rambabu Kalluri and Vijay Moraveneni are luxurious. The producers have invested decent amounts without compromising in terms of quality. Music by Pradeep Kumar added more strength for this film. Not only his songs but also his background score is intense. Dialogues by Rajesh A Murthy are impactful. Cinematographer Vijay Karthik Kannan has produced bright visuals for this film. Editing by Shafiq Muhammad Ali is clean.

Verdict:

The movie has a really entertaining script which is definitely the major plus point of this film. The movie starts off on an interesting note and the entire first staff is really impressive and will make the audience connect with the story of the film. However, when compared the first half, the second half is even racier and interesting with a lot more twists. Amala Paul’s intense performance and screenplay can be considered as the highlights of this film. However, as it is a Tamil film, Tamil nativity might not grab the attention of some Telugu audience which can be considered as a minus point of this film. To conclude, ‘Aame’ movie will definitely give a thrilling ride for the viewers.

Mr. KK Telugu Movie Review

Movie Name Mr.KK
Cast Vikram, Akshara Hassan, Lena, Abi Hassan
Director Rajesh M Selva
Music Director Ghibran
Cinematogarphy Srinivas R. Gutha
Editor Praveen K L
Producer Kamal Hassan

There are some actors who always choose innovative roles and scripts even when they are going through a series of flops. They know what they are doing and still choose to do the roles which challenge them physically and mentally. Chiyaan Vikram is one such an actor who always surprises the audience with his makeovers and innovative scripts and roles he chooses. He is always ready to give his best for the role he is playing. The previous movies he acted has not been successful and he is in his bad phase. He is now coming with “Mr.KK” which is touted to be an adrenaline thriller being produced by legendary Kamal Hassan in his banner Raj Kamal Films International. This film co-stars Akshara Hassan and Abi Hassan. Let’s see how it works on us as it is releasing today into theatres.

Story

In Kuala Lumpur, KK (Vikram) escapes from the Twin towers from two bad guys who are trying to kill him, wounded and ends up in hospital being saved by a trainee doctor named Vasu (Abi Hassan). He treats him and calls police about the case. He leaves for his home and he lives with his pregnant wife (Akshara Hassan). They are attacked by a person and they kidnap his pregnant wife and asks him to get KK in exchange of his wife. Meanwhile, Police and some other groups starts searching for KK. How Vasu saved his wife? Who kidnapped his wife? Who is KK and why is he being chased? Who are the people chasing KK?

Cast and Performance

Vikram is fantastic in the role of KK and he gave his best as always to make the role memorable. Although he gets a limited screen presence, he completely steals the show with his performance. His stylish body language and his looks are additional layers to the character. Akshara Hassan is good in her role. Abi Hassan who more screen presence has used it fully to showcase his acting abilities and succeeded well in that aspect. Lena as a cop is nice. All other actors have done a good job in their roles.

Writing Performance

The story of Mr. KK is exciting and the screenplay is written well but the slow pace kills the mood. The dialogues are okay.

Technical Performance

This film has one song and it is composed well by Ghibran. He did his best in scoring the background score and elevated the action sequences to another level with his thrilling music. The cinematography by Srinivas R Gutha is superb. His work is an added advantage to the movie. The editing by Praveen KL is fine. The stunts and action sequences are very well composed and they worked out very well. The production values of RKFI is grand.

Highlights

  • Vikram as KK
  • Background score by Ghibran
  • Cinematography by Srinivas R Gutha
  • Action Sequences

Minus

The slow pace of the movie.

Verdict

Mr. KK is a story of a guy who is being chased by every other gang and how he escapes from them and put an end to his problems. This film is a remake of a French film and director Rajesh Selva who earlier directed Cheekati Rajyan has done good work. The entire first half only ends up in setting up the characters and not even one percent of the story is revealed here. The second half is where the real action starts and is let down by the slow pace. Interestingly, Chiyaan Vikram gets lesser screen presence than Abi Hassan and Vikram makes it up with his performance. The stylish action sequences and thrilling moments worked out well. To sum up, Mr. KK is a one-time watchable stylish action thriller from Vikram.

Kalki Telugu Movie Review

Movie Name Kalki
Cast Doctor Rajasekhar, Adah Sharma, Ashutosh Rana, and Nandita Shweta
Director Prasanth Varma
Music Director Sravan Bharadwaj
Cinematographer Dasaradhi Shivendra

There are a lot number of directors who impressed the audience with greater content and wonderful debut film. They got their name echo with the result of the blockbuster result of their first film. VV Vinayak, SS Rajamouli, Koratala Siva, Puri Jagannadh are the current top directors of the Telugu film industry who impressed the audience with their first film itself. Tarun Bhasker, Sandeep Vanga and Prasanth Varma are the recent directors who made it big with their debut film. Prasanth Varma made his debut with “Awe” which was produced by Natural star Nani and it went on to become one of the best films of the previous year. He is now coming with his second film “Kalki” which stars Rajasekhar and Adah Sharma in lead roles. The promos of the film had already created a buzz around the movie to make it one of the awaited movies. Let’s see how it works as it is releasing today into the theatres.

Story

Kolhapur is a place in rural Telangana which is being dominated by some powerful people there. The brother of the local MLA Sekhar gets murdered there and things take different turns. Kalki (Rajasekhar) is transferred to Kolhapur and appointed to investigate the murder case. When he comes to investigate this, some unexpected things come up and he gets involved in the case. How he solved the murder mystery of Sekhar is the remaining story.

Cast and performance

Rajasekhar has done good work in the role of Kalki but the dubbing for his role is done by some other dubbing artist which is a big let down as the power factor that comes with his role is missing. Adah Sharma is good in the limited role and looks good. Nandita Shweta is fine. Rahul Ramakrishna has once again done a nice job in his role. Ashutosh Rana and all other actors who did as baddies have done a good job.

Writing Department

The story of Kalki is good but the screenplay made it a forgettable one. The dialogues are written according to the screenplay.

Technical Departments

The songs composed by Sravan Bharadwaj are okay but he has done terrific work in composing the background score. It is one of the positive things that has happened to the movie. The cinematography by Dasaradhi Shivendra is superb. The visuals of the movie are eye appealing and a lot of work has gone into it. The editing could have been better to make the movie racy. The fantastic work by the art department is clearly seen in the movie. The stunts and action sequences are composed well. The production values are grand.

Highlights

Cinematography by Dasaradhi Shivendra

Background score by Sravan Baradwaj

Minus

Rajasekhar’s dubbing

Screenplay

Verdict

Kalki is a murder mystery set in olden times where a police officer from another area comes to solve the crime. The storyline has a lot of scope to be an interesting and engaging one if the screenplay is written properly. This movie lacks proper screenplay and tests the patience of the movie. The first half of the movie starts slow and makes the audience uncomfortable until and a few twists. The second half of the movie is better compared to the first half but this half to doesn’t make up for the experience we have had with the first half. The voice by Sai Kumar for Rajasekhar adds up a layer to the performance and power factor to his face but the decision to go for the voice of another dubbing artist works badly. Prasanth Varma who surprised the audience with his debut film has disappointed this time with Kalki.

Kabir Singh Hindi Movie Review

Movie Name Kabir Singh
Cast Shahid Kapoor, Kiara Advani, Arjan Bajwa
Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga
Music Director Harshavardhan, Rameshwar
Producers Murad Khetani, Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Ashwin Varde

After a stupendous in Telugu, Sandeep Reddy remakes Arjun Reddy which comes exactly after two years. The movie had set a trend in the Telugu industry in many ways. Be it the Telangana dialect becoming fashionable or the whimsical of a heartbroken hero. It also made the Telugu protagonist Vijay Devarakonda a superstar. Shahid Kapoor has been chosen to play the Hindi counterpart and Kiara Advani plays the female lead.

Kabir Singh ReviewStory

The film is an out and out love story. Kabir Singh (Shahid Kapoor) is a medicine student who is damn good at his academics but has a rebellious attitude. He instantly falls in love when a junior – Preeti enters their college. Unlike Kabir, Preeti is silent and fragile like a flower. They fall in love deeply and just can’t be separate for a minute. However, after Kabir graduates, it becomes a long-distance relationship, but love grows further. The moment comes when Kabir puts forward the proposal, hell breaks loose as a quarrel sparks when Preeti’s parents oppose it and decide to get her married to some other. Then begins the journey of Kabir Singh’s self-destruction, the contemporary Devdas who is into total intoxication of all forms. Kabir yet is a successful surgeon though he is already consumed alcohol before every surgery. The movie is about what’s the culmination to this love failure.

The best part of the film is that it has been remade by the original director. He knows the soul of the film. He keeps it intact despite the customizations owing to locale change. Though the base of the script is decades old, it’s the contemporary treatment that makes it hit the ball out of the park. Kabir’s physical strength versus mental fragility is beautifully written. That was the beauty of irony. Preeti’s silence speaks tonnes about her life for Kabir. The anger, the sadness, the passion, the suffering has been portrayed to perfection. The only drawback is its slow pace in the second half.

The music captures the soul of this intense love story. Bekhayali and Kitna Chahe are extraordinary and the other songs weave with the situation seamlessly. Despite the liplocks, this film doesn’t present like any other Bollywood sleazy songs. The love feels pure and the lovers high on each other.

Performances

The performances are top notch. This is Shahid Kapoor’s one of the best acts for sure. On par with Haider and Udta Punjab, Shahid meets the expectations or probably even more. Kiara also makes an impact. Her screen presence is soothing. The supporting cast also did a suitable job, especially the friend of Kabir stood out.

Technical Aspects

Kabir Singh’s screenplay is worth mentioning for his subtle yet strong scenes. Some scenes make you cheer, make you cry and make you laugh too. Cinematography is decent too.

Verdict

The movie’s soul definitely connects to the young and old who are/were in love, whether won or lost. It’s refreshing to see an out-and-out love story in Bollywood after ages when Bollywood totally forgot about writing scripts about the universal subject – college love.

Punch Line: Kabir Singh – Intense and passionate – 4/5

AMMA against harsh movie reviews!

The Association of Malayalam Movie Artists or AMMA had its annual general body meeting yesterday and it was quite an event, with all the stars of Mollywood gathering under one roof to discuss problems affecting the industry and other relevant topics.

You can imagine the sheer ‘star value’ of the meeting with everyone from Mohanlal and Mammootty to all the young stars and veterans in attendance!

AMMA-Selfie

The selfie trend becoming quite the ‘in thing’ these days in such high profile events, the Mollywood biggies too posed for a couple of those, which, needless to say, have become extremely popular in the social media and is now bordering on that coveted viral status.

Now, in the meeting, several key decisions were made and some things were finally voiced out loud for the media to hear.

Actor Innocent, who is currently the Member of Parliament from Chalakkudy, was hoping to step down as the President of AMMA (a post which he has held for years), in order to concentrate more on his new responsibilities. But the organization requested Innocent to complete his current tenure and so it looks like the beloved comedian will continue at the helm of AMMA.

There was also another issue raised at the event – harsh movie reviews on television channels!

Amma-Meeting-Photos

Yes, it seems certain movie review shows on the air, specifically those on channels Reporter and Indiavision, are being a bit too hard on the movies being released these days.

That by itself wouldn’t be much of a problem – it’s a free country after all – but AMMA feels the extreme critiquing and severe reviews aired almost immediately as the movies are out, mostly for entertainment value, adversely affects the people’s opinion of the flicks and by extension their financial prospects. So they say with no reservation that this has to stop!

Do they have the right to say that? Not really, or so one guesses, but it will be mighty interesting to see the reaction of the channels to this rather authoritative demand.

AMMA-Against-Harsh-Reviews

AMMA also stated that television channels should pay the organization the money it’s due for holding award shows and such. That’s only fair as they are cash cows for the regional channels these days and a welcome relief from regular programming at times.

All in all, a productive day for the movie industry as a whole and a spectacle for the media..

Follow Chitramala for more updates on the entertainment world!
