Suriya rejects, Karthi accepts!

The fates of certain things are strange indeed and this is especially true in the case of a movie, which goes through a lot of ‘happy accidents’ before becoming the finished product we see on the screen in front of us.

Suriya rejects, Karthi accepts

It was not long ago that N Lingusamy offered a script to Suriya titled Enni Yezhu Naal and wanted him to work with him on it. But Suriya chose to decline the offer respectfully citing what he felt was the reason that mattered most – he wasn’t suited for that role.

Instead however, he found another one of Lingusamy’s scripts interesting and much more to his liking.. that one turned out to be Anjaan!

Now what happened to the other one you ask? Did it get shelved waiting for another actor to green light it.. well, not exactly. Lingusamy immediately found someone perfect for the role, almost custom tailored to fit the part you might say – and guess who that was – none other than Karthi!

It seems one brother’s loss had become another’s gain.

Now Karthi is on a mission to get back on to the A list with some smash hits and maybe a Lingusamy movie is just what the doctor ordered. Currently though, he is waiting for his other flick, Madras, to come out in August when it will possibly go up against his brother’s Lingusamy directed venture Anjaan at the box office.

Wow, the head spins when one pays too much attention to the cycle of things in tinsel town.

However, sources say Lingusamy is not planning to take a break after Anjaan releases and is all set to go ahead with the launch of Enni Yezhu Naal with Karthi as the star.

It is unknown who will be playing the lead female role at this point.

Karthi’s Madras in trouble?

Well, this is the latest news that’s buzzing in Kollywood. Sources say the Madras team is in quite a fix now because of Anand Shankar’s Vikram Prabhu starrer Arima Nambi and are undecided on how to proceed!

Madras-Troubles

The problem is that apparently Arima Nambi which came out on July 4th and is doing well at the box office has some scenes which are quite similar to certain parts of Madras!

There are those who are of the opinion that this is nothing to be concerned about, and in a way, it is even to be expected as both movies deal with the theme of rowdyism at its core.

But given that the fans would be coming fresh off watching the Anand Shankar movie and might be less interested in watching the Ranjith flick because of a loss of novelty has the director worried and there are even talks that he may end up reshooting some portions to avoid this!

Already Madras has postponed its release by a month, to August, to avoid the Ramzan rush of high profile releases and all that would be wasted if the fans don’t appreciate the plot and the scenes in the end, as something unique.

Madras is a much needed hit for Karthi as his star status is in trouble because his previous few flicks have failed to make a sufficient impact at the box office. So, all in all, this whole situation is quite unfortunate for him as well.

The decision to release the film in August means it will be going up against Suriya’s much anticipated Anjaan as well, which is also a gangster flick albeit one of a completely different sensibility.

What will Ranjith and Karthi do now to get themselves out of this pickle?

Karthi’s Madras backs out!

Karthi’s Madras, which really is a desperation flick for the popular star, was supposed to release on July 25th. In fact, this was announced right around the time the first looks and the trailer of the film came out. The producers seemed confident in the flick’s chances in the mad rush of Ramzan releases.

Karthi Madras Movie

But now they have changed tunes and have maybe found the over abundance of high profile releases a bit too much to handle with ease, at least not without jeopardizing their film’s chances at the box office.

So now they have informed the media that Madras would not be releasing on July 25th or in fact, in July at all! Yes, the big date has been postponed to some unknown day in August.

Sigh.. but one can hardly blame the makers of the film, after all we have three or maybe four major releases in the second half of July, specifically during the Ramzan weekend itself.

Vijay Antony’s Saleem, Karthik Subburaj’s Jigarthanda and quite possibly Sarabham may also release on July 25th. Meanwhile, the much awaited and highly controversial Thirumanam Enum Nikkah will be coming out a day earlier on the 24th.

July 18th, on the other hand, will have the fans rushing to watch the Dhanush fillm Velai Illa Pattathaari which has gathered up quite a buzz and positive reviews from its trailer. The day will also mark the release of Sathuranga Vettai.

So it does kind of make sense from a business point of view why Madras’s producers had second thoughts about going in to this mayhem of a week with their film. But this does raise the question, are they prepared to face the tremendously hyped Anjaan starring Karthi’s brother Suriya come August 15th?

Karthi, has his hopes really pinned on Madras striking gold at the box office as his previous few ventures have been duds and it’s becoming harder for the star to maintain his star value in the very competitive industry.

Let’s wait and see how the film fares before we pass judgment..

Karthi’s Komban starts rolling!

Actor Karthi, while waiting for his much hyped Madras to release in a few weeks, has already immersed himself in another project and that is Komban!

Karthi Komban Movie Pooja

The film stars him along with the talented Lakshmi Menon in the lead, and is being directed by Muthiah of Kuttippuli fame. The pooja for the film was held yesterday and the crew are hoping to get the shooting completed at one stretch.

The main location for the movie is Ramanathapuram, and the director has confirmed that almost all of the film will be shot in the south Tamil Nadu area. Velraj will be handling the cinematography.

Karthi-Lakshmi-Menon-Komban

Reported to be an all out entertainer for the masses, this one will be a drastically different one from Madras for Karthi.

The film is being produced by S R Prakash Babu and S R Prabhu along with K E Gnanavel Raja under the banner of Studio Green.

“Comedy did not work out for me. I tried that route as it was what appealed to the female audiences and the younger demographic but it just didn’t happen for me.” Says Karthi about his recent string of failures at the box office.

So the actor is definitely looking to move forward and away from his current image as a hero with his new choices.

Lakshmi Menon’s presence in the movie is another good sign for those who are watching the larger trends and career patterns in showbiz. Almost all of the actress’s films have been successes and she has been named as the fastest rising star in Kollywood.

It is truly amazing, considering the fact that the vivacious and multi talented Lakshmi is only 18 and is yet to finish high school! She also has denied rumours that link her romantically with actor Vishal, with whom she has appeared in multiple movies.

“I barely have time for school, how will I date anyone?” Questions the indignant young starlet.

Komban’s success along with Madras’s are very ‘necessary’ for Karthi, at this point, to maintain his bankability as an actor.

Karthi’s Madras to release on July 25?

Karthi’s Madras was reported to release on July 23 and the publicity has been to this effect, especially in social media circles but sources now say the flick might be aiming for a July 25 release.

karthi-madras-release-date

The movie, which is promised to be an out and out entertainer, is mostly based on the experience of the criminal life or goondaism in northern Chennai. “I still favour the name Madras over Chennai. Working with in live locations and with the communities there really helped me learn new aspects about my job and unlearn some things.” Karthi says.

Unlike other movies in recent times, which came out with a poster or a first look for the movie while it was still in production, Madras gave the audience a peek at their poster only after they finished wrapping. By fate or design, the poster has since gone viral.

The film is being directed by Pa Ranjith. The music has been scored by Santhosh Narayan.

This movie has another rather big burden attached to it though – it’s a real desperate one for Karthi. He really needs a hit with this one, since his last few projects didn’t work out well commercially, or he loses his shot at staying amongst the top stars in the field.

Bankability is indeed a huge deal in the film industry and one of the disadvantages, one supposes, of being a male lead actor in such a hero driven industry such as ours is that you better deliver hits consistently.

In any case, good luck to Karthi, Ranjith and team and let’s hope this one brings with it all the fireworks it promises…

Lingusamy to Pair up Karthi – Samantha!

Lingusamy, who is currently working on the Surya – Samantha movie Anjaan, has announced that he will be making a Karthi – Samantha starrer movie next. The director’s own production house Thiruppathi Brothers will be producing the flick.

Samantha-Karthi

The project, titled Yenni Yezhu Naal, is rumoured to be a mass masala entertainer with sufficient scope for comedy, romance and action. The rest of the cast and crew haven’t been decided upon yet.

Karthi has worked with Lingusamy in the past, in the super hit movie Paiyya, in which he co starred with Tamannah. The movie also had a hit soundtrack with the likes of ‘Thulli Thulli Mazhayai..’.

Karthi is really in need of a big hit these days as his previous four movies – Sagini, Alex Pandian, All in All Azhagu Raja and Biriyani- have been box office failures.

He is currently working on P A Ranjith’s Kaali, while Lingusamy’s Anjaan starring Karthi’s own brother superstar Surya will release on August 15, the independence day.
The interesting mix of casting and direction has already granted the project some buzz and the audience will have to wait to see if Karthi can deliver a hit this time.

‘Biriyani’ as good as Hyderabadi Biryani – Karthi

Karthi Stills

Tamil Star Karthi Sivakumar, brother of celebrated hero Suriya, will soon hit the theaters with his new film in the offing, Biriyani. The film is a romantic comedy that will showcase Karthi in a very comical genre. Hansika Motwani stars opposite him in the movie.

“When i come with Biriyani, the Telugu version that will hit screens on December 20, I also promise my fans that very soon I will do a straight film here. My brother Suriya has already launched one and i will follow suit’ said the excited actor.

Karthi may have been launched into the film business with his father’s and brother’s influence, but he soon transformed into an individual actor with his own style. Yugaaniki Okkadu, Awara and Naa Peru Siva proved that he is capable off pulling off the show single handed. After Sakuni, which did not make any impact at Box Office, Karthi is now back with a lighter metric comedy that looks promising.

Karthi will also be seen singing in the film. “I am very confident that Biriyani will be as good for viewers as the famous Hyderabadi Biriyani” he said, in a lighter tone, while speaking to a newspaper tabloid.

Here is wishing Karthi a great success with Biriyani. The tasty delight hits the screens this Friday.
