Karthi’s Madras, which really is a desperation flick for the popular star, was supposed to release on July 25th. In fact, this was announced right around the time the first looks and the trailer of the film came out. The producers seemed confident in the flick’s chances in the mad rush of Ramzan releases.
But now they have changed tunes and have maybe found the over abundance of high profile releases a bit too much to handle with ease, at least not without jeopardizing their film’s chances at the box office.
So now they have informed the media that Madras would not be releasing on July 25th or in fact, in July at all! Yes, the big date has been postponed to some unknown day in August.
Sigh.. but one can hardly blame the makers of the film, after all we have three or maybe four major releases in the second half of July, specifically during the Ramzan weekend itself.
Vijay Antony’s Saleem, Karthik Subburaj’s Jigarthanda and quite possibly Sarabham may also release on July 25th. Meanwhile, the much awaited and highly controversial Thirumanam Enum Nikkah will be coming out a day earlier on the 24th.
July 18th, on the other hand, will have the fans rushing to watch the Dhanush fillm Velai Illa Pattathaari which has gathered up quite a buzz and positive reviews from its trailer. The day will also mark the release of Sathuranga Vettai.
So it does kind of make sense from a business point of view why Madras’s producers had second thoughts about going in to this mayhem of a week with their film. But this does raise the question, are they prepared to face the tremendously hyped Anjaan starring Karthi’s brother Suriya come August 15th?
Karthi, has his hopes really pinned on Madras striking gold at the box office as his previous few ventures have been duds and it’s becoming harder for the star to maintain his star value in the very competitive industry.
Let’s wait and see how the film fares before we pass judgment..
