Satyamev Jayate, the popular TV show hosted by Bollywood actor Aamir Khan, is headed to China after Star India sold the rights of the popular show to a production company there.
“When we did the first season of Satyamev Jayate, we got inquiries from many parts of Asia and some parts in Africa. But the country from where we saw the maximum interest was China and we have just sold the rights of the show to a production company in China,” said the Star India CEO Uday Shankar.
While no further details were given about on which channel the show would be aired in China, Shankar later told that the rights were sold under syndication where a party in China was interested in the show and took its rights.
Meanwhile, Shankar said that the network is working on a new season of Satyamev Jayate that will be aired soon.
“The show requires immense amount of research. We are working on that. Hopefully there will be a new season soon,” he said.
James Murdoch, of CNN-IBN, said that Satyamev Jayate has become a “phenomenon” in India and “galvanised” the nation by shining a light of some of India’s most sensitive social issues and taboos like female foeticide, inter-caste marriage, child sex abuse and voting corruption.
“Satyamev Jayate was the beginning of a journey…India was now ready, our viewers were ready… to take that big leap and that’s how came Satyamev Jayate, where we decided that we will sharply, in each episode focus on some of the things that must change in this country while all kinds of economic and social changes keep happening. We believe that all content that we create is corporate social responsibility seriously,” said Shankar while speaking about social issues.

Joining the list of many celebrities who campaigned willfully for the individual right to vote the Mr Perfectionist of Bollywood Aamir Khan appealed to the citizens of the country yesterday while attending the NDTV Indian of the Year Awards. Aamir was called to give away the prestigious awards to the deserving winners. The actor implored the people to make their decision wisely and stop voting for the criminals in the name of governance – “I wish and hope that political parties rise above this and stop giving tickets to criminals. Ultimately the change will come when people stop voting for criminals” he said. Aamir is known for his open attack on the social issues affecting the society.
The star also happened to pick up the subject in the second season of his show Satyameva Jayate. The burning issue of political parties giving tickets to the candidates with shady background with no checking was actively debated upon. Aamir also wonders why people vote for such criminals despite knowing the real truth behind their personalities. His angst is also primarily with the parties being so irresponsible while choosing the members.
“What i dont understand is that why political parties give a ticket to criminals. I am sad, like every Indian” he expressed.
Aamir Khan was joined by social activist Aruna Roy and S Y Quraishi, the former chief election commissioner on the stage for the public service session.
He also gave away the NDTV Indian of the Year Awards to two organizations on the podium – Association for Democratic Reforms and PRS Legislative Research.
These are the very thoughts that come to minds looking at the recent developments with the release of Bombay Velvet. The movie that was supposed to hit the theatres the same time as Aamir Khan’s PK will now release on November 28th. PK on the other hand, will release as planned on December 19th.
Ranbir, not sounding too obvious made a statement last night at the wrap up party of Bombay Velvet – “I think it is correct release date as we will get more theatres. We don’t want to clash with another film as it affects the business of a film. It is the best film. And we hope the audience will like the film” he said.
Directed by Anurag Kashyap, the film captures the old charm of Bombay and how the city emerged to be one of the biggest metropolises of India.
“Anurag has made this film with lot of hard work and love. It has been a dream of Anurag for nine years. We hope wider audience sees this film as it is an entertaining and engaging film” Ranbir added.
With all due respect to the efforts, the media now wonders if Aamir Khan indeed holds a fear factor in the hearts of other actors. Mr Perfectionist who signs a film a year, Aamir’s presence at the ticket counters unanimously gathers more response than all the other films put together. While PK team has not promoted the movie much, it sure looks like another winner, with a single factor called Aamir agreeing to play the central protagonist.
Aamir Khan’s next awaited film, PK, has now been preponed. The film is all set to release on December 19th this year, almost a week before the original date planned. This would be the second that Aamir Khan will be collaborating with Rajkumar Hirani, who made all time cult film 3 Idiots.
The film marks the resurgence of Aamir in a quality backed role.After Dhoom 3, the actor has been taking it easy and focussing on his trending project on the telly, Satyameva Jayate.
PK also stars Anushka Sharma, Sushant Singh Rajput, Boman Irani and Sanjay Dutt in the leads. While the actual plot of the film is yet to be known, the title of the movie has created enough stir.

Mammootty starrer Gangster, directed by Aashiq Abu, just came out on Friday the 11th and has been doing phenomenal business so far, in spite of mixed reviews from the critics. The movie’s promotional tactics, which involved a royalty free song release, an animated teaser trailer and an android game, seems to have paid off as the theatres are packed and the movie is bringing in record breaking collections.
The first day, according to the Megastar’s fan community, brought in roughly Rs. 6.2 crores and the second day, again, more than half that.
The satellite rights have sold for Rs. 5 crores and overseas and other state release rights have sold for Rs. 3 crores and Rs. 1 crore respectively.
But no – Aashiq Abu’s mega flick wasn’t done with the big bucks – video rights went for Rs. 2.8 crores and now comes the rumour that Aamir bagged the Bollywood remake rights for, that’s right, for another Rs. 5 crores!
Whatever the truth maybe, it’s safe to say that Gangster might wind up one of the year’s biggest hits without breaking a sweat. With Mohanlal’s Mr. Fraud in the finishing stages of production and Prithviraj’s 7th Day out already, the year seems tailor made for big budget action/suspense thrillers.
‘Different looks in one movie’ is also starting to be a running theme this year with Mr. Fraud claiming the caption ‘One man, Many faces’ and Prithviraj sporting a mature look in 7th Day as a 42 year old policeman.

There were some controversial rumours spread lately that Aamir Khan is doing active fund raising for the Islamic community. These rumours were all over the internet, defaming the image of the actor with religion based allegations. While Aamir Khan plainly ignored these false rumours, the police went working hard to trace the culprit who started them. Finally, they were successful as the IP address at a place in Kozhikode, Kerala was identified in the investigation.
The police is currently interrogating the suspect who is a former government official. The man was posting bogus rumours on the social networking websites stereotyping Aamir to be pro Islam. Aamir Khan’s charity trust called Humanity Trust that recently featured in the program Satyameva Jayate was discussed. This trust has manforce from an organization that works for contruction of mosques and welfare of the Muslim Youth.
But Aaamir clearly denied those allegations stating that all the donations collected during the show are given to the social cause and are being used appropriately for the society as a whole.
The trust which Satyamev Jayate was associated with in Season 1is Humanity Trust, Hanakpur, West Bengal, which is run by the locals Dr Ajoy Mistry and his mother Subhasini Mistry and it has nothing to do with Masjid construction, he clarified.
Putting an end to the ongoing debate that he is actively campaigning for Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), perfectionist Aamir Khan wrote to the Election Commission (EC) clearing the air. Aamir confirmed in the letter that he is not endorsing any political party whatsoever and that these are baseless rumours.
The news came to light when few candidates of AAP allegedly tweeted that Aamir Khan was a part of the campaign. Posters of the party flaunting Aamir Khan’s images were circulated and used to boost the party values.
“Aamir Khan from day one has made it clear that he will not be endorsing a particular political party. He is not supporting or campaigning for any political party” confirmed the spokesperson on behalf of the actor.
Aamir recently kicked off the second season of his show on social issues, Satyameva Jayate. The issues such as rape, corruption, life of garbage pickers etc., were actively picked and highlighted so far. The actor is doing an extensive research at the ground level to address the topics of burning interest with micro details.
Other than flaunting that Aamir is representing their party, AAP also has some real celebrities actively participating for their cause. Actress Gul Panag is one of the few celebrities who is on a roll, going out with active force to campaign for the party and spread the message.
Aamir is yet to comment on his future plans to join the politics. This season will see a sizeable number of Bollywood celebrities contest for Lok Sabha from various constituencies representing various parties.
