Varun Tej To Turn as a Villain

Mega Prince Varun Tej had a rather slow start to his career. A couple of his first two films failed to perform at the box office. But he came back with flying colours and scored two back to back hits in the form of Fidaa and Tholiprema.

Now, another two of his films, Anthariksham 9000kmph and F2 are getting ready for the release. Out of the two, Anthariksham will be out this week. Meanwhile, there was news circling around saying that Varun has been roped in for a negative role in Telugu remake of Jigarthanda.

When asked about the same in a recent interview, Varun said that director Harish Shankar has approached him for the negative role in the film. Varun added that currently, Harish is making necessary changes to the script to suit it for Telugu audience sensibilities. This confirms that the project is still on and rest of the updates might be out soon.

Piracy hits Jigarthanda, Police in action!

Jigarthanda starring Siddharth, Lakshmi Menon and Bobby Simhaa came out on August 1 and has been collecting rave reviews and stellar collections at the box office but a dark cloud has fallen over the otherwise jubilant team behind the movie. We are talking about that scourge of the movie industry – piracy!

Jigarthanda-Piracy

Apparently, pirated copies of the movie in the form of CDs, VCDs etc. began circulating from the opening day itself and this has the producer of the film, S Kathiresan worried – quite rightfully, one might add!

With pirated copies selling like hot cakes, this could severely impact the gross profits of the movie and the tragic thing is there is not much to be done other than take the necessary legal measures and hope for the best.

And this is exactly what the producer has done. Kathiresan has lodged an official complaint with the Chennai Police and the police are now in action looking to curb the spread of the aforementioned illegal copies. Anyone found guilty of participating in this act will be strictly dealt with, as per the law, which is quite harsh in this regard in India.

Time and time again, this has happened in all the industries in the south and in Bollywood too. Especially in Tamil Nadu, many actors and producers have come forward on multiple occasions to plead with the fans not to indulge in this downright criminal activity.

Jigarthanda currently is gaining audiences per day as word of mouth publicity has done the movie good. The days to come will surely see it as stiff competition for the reigning smash hit that is Dhanush’s Velai Illa Pattathaari.

Let us hope the piracy bug doesn’t take too much out of all the sweat and toil put behind this movie, which according to the fans, is a refreshingly unique one and definitely worth a watch on the big screens.

Just in: Jigarthanda getting rave reviews!!

Two thumbs up for a daringly different creation!

Well that’s what they’re saying folks and by ‘they’ we mean the ecstatic and thrilled fans who saw Karthik Subbaraj’s Jigarthanda today on its releasing date, August 1st!

Jigarthanda-Review

Jigarthanda stars Siddharth and Lakshmi Menon in the lead roles, while Bobby Simha plays the third guy in the equation or the antagonist.

The flick was touted quite uniquely as a ‘musical gangster story’ and given Karthik’s first directorial venture Pizza was a huge hit, the expectation for this one were quite high. The controversy surrounding the release date kept the movie in the headlines, although it looks like it really did not need the added publicity – the movie speaks for itself…

There were apparently standing ovations at the end of some of the screenings and the fans were especially stunned by both Siddharth’s and Simha’s performances.
The viewers who have tweeted out countless amazing tweets praising the movie were very impressed with some of the cliff hangers in the movie and have applauded the comedy which they described as ‘roll on the floor laughing’ funny!

There were even a few fans who watched two shows straight, and yet others who tweeted out during the interval that they wished the second half would start already as the suspense was killing them.

Now, if that isn’t a great review, what is?

Popular opinion so far is that the first half is ‘mass’ and the second half is extremely intriguing and full of twists.

The romance in the movie was also greatly appreciated by the fans as a love triangle is at the crux of the plot, apparently. So Lakshmi Menon has reason to celebrate as well, with this being her umpteenth consecutive hit!

There were some fans who were wondering how the mass audiences would receive the film, given its refreshing take, but on the whole it looks like finally Dhanush’s Velai Illa Pattathaari is going to get some stiff competition at the box office now..

Siddharth’s allegations were aimed at Dhanush?

Yesterday was a day of conflict and swift resolution in Kollywood, when actor Siddharth tweeted out a series of angry allegations against the producer of his movie Jigarthanda for postponing its release without consulting them (the cast and crew) and he also made certain implications that unnamed third parties were out to destroy the flick’s good prospects.

Siddharth-Dhanush

Later in the day though, Kathiresan, the producer of Jigarthanda, came out with a press statement in which he explained that the reason for delaying the release of his movie was essentially because Dhanush’s Velai Illa Pattathaari, which came out the week before was doing exceptional business and it made good sense to put a gap between the two releases.

This would ensure that his movie’s chances were equally good, given the reviews he had received so far from screening it were positive.

He also added that under no circumstances would he be influenced by a third party to take any action and that this, quite simply, was not the case here as well.

Now, Siddharth it seems wasn’t just blaming some unknown third party for the whole mess, no. It seems he thinks it’s Dhanush’s fault.. indirectly at least!

The friendship between Kathiresan and Dhansuh is well known in the industry and among fans as they worked together in the national award winning movie Aadukalam.

Siddharth suspects,as do many, that it is this relationship that caused the producer to push the release date without consulting him or the director of the flick, Karthik Subbaraj.

The young actor, in a rather dramatic plea, asked the fans to support him and his movie and declared with gusto that nobody can kill a good film. A bit of an overreaction to a semi serious issue, some felt.

In any case, now Jigarthanda is set to come out on August 1st. But now we’ll have to see how it fares against the other big releases that month as well.

The film stars Siddharth and Lakshmi Menon in the lead and is touted as a musical gangster story.

Just in: Jigarthanda postponed due to VIP success!

It was earlier today that actor Siddharth made the news by tweeting out a series of allegations crying foul over the postponing of the release of his movie Jigarthanda.

Jigarthanda-postponed-due-to-vip-success

He accused the producer of showing him and the rest of the cast no respect, by not informing them personally about the decision to postpone the big day and made certain.. implications that there might be third parties at work trying to ruin the movie’s potential prospects.

Now, the producer of the movie, Kathiresan of Five Star Films, has come forward to settle all doubts and his version of events and the reasons behind them are different, to say the least.

This is what he had to say to the fans:

“Velai Illa Pattathari which was released last week is having a good run at the box office all over Tamil Nadu. Theatre owners feel that this is a victory for theatres. Meanwhile I was to release my production venture Jigarthanda on this Friday, the 25th July. However, distributors and theatre owners who saw Jigarthanda felt that the film has come up really well and if it got postponed by a week, it would get more theatres and also record huge success at the box office.

Hence keeping their views in mind and also wanting my film to garner huge success, I am planning to release Jigarthanda on the 1st of August. I have taken this decision not bowing to anyone’s demand but only with a singular intention that all those people who bought the film should emerge successful.”

Well that sounds reasonable, yes?

In any case, with this press statement, Siddharth’s reaction or overreaction seems rather unfounded and it is unclear at this point if he has settled the matter with the producer personally.

In any case, the movie comes out on August 1st then and the fans, for the most part, might care just about that. However, it has to be said that things are never quite what they appear to be in show business and for an eager public ready for any interesting bit of controversy, it never gets boring either.

Siddharth tweets out angry allegations over Jigarthanda!

Yes folks, Siddharth is furious and has grabbed the spotlight with his series of controversial tweets. Now what’s got our young hero all riled up you ask? Why, the postponed release date of his movie Jigarthanda of course!

Siddharth-Angry-over-Jigarthanda-Producer

Yes, for those of you who haven’t heard – the release day of Jigarthanda, which was to come out on July 25th has been delayed and no new date has been announced.

This news came out rather unexpectedly as till now, the posters and promos for the movie were aimed for its release this Friday. Siddharth though is even more irked that the producer of the movie did not inform him or the cast of the news but thought it fit to personally deliver the news to other producers. The young actor also blames some mysterious third parties for this whole mess.

Check out his series of tweets which has caused quite the commotion in Kollywood:

The producer of #JIGARTHANDA has personally informed other producers and distributors about the postponement. He has not informed us yet.

We need a miracle. Praying! Give us our release date.

Heartbreaking. Paper ads with theaters list till Tuesday for a Friday release and then this happens. God save cinema! #JIGARTHANDA

All lovers of cinema, please support @karthiksubbaraj & our team. Whenever our film releases it needs all your help. We are helpless today.

Karthik, our whole team and I worked really hard for Jigarthanda. With no respect for us, without even discussing it with us…postponed.

Whoever you are who aided in this dirty game, you can delay us you cannot stop us. A good film cannot be killed. #JIGARTHANDA

Sorry Jigarthanda fans. External unfair pressure is forcing our film to be postponed. #JIGARTHANDA @karthiksubbaraj

Well, that is rather a strange circumstance and Siddharth’s devotion to the flick is very evident.

Jigarthanda stars him and Lakshmi Menon in lead roles, and is touted as a ‘musical gangster flick’. It has been directed by Karthik Subbaraj. It is being produced by Kathiresan, under the banner of Five Star Films.

Siddharth’s Jigarthanda story lifted?

Jigarthanda is the upcoming flick from young director Karthik Subburaj, and it stars Siddharth and Lakshmi Menon in the lead roles.

Jigarthanda-Story

Now reports are rolling in that the plot of the movie may have been lifted from a hit, critically acclaimed Korean movie titled A Dirty Carnival!

A Dirty Carnival tells the story of a wannabe film maker, who in his pursuit of making a film on the ‘thug life’ or criminal culture meets a rowdy who gives him insight in to that world. The film has been making the rounds in several international film festivals.

If indeed the rumours are true and Karthik has ripped off this film, it’s bad form indeed and certainly a disappointment to the fans who were expecting an original story and an innovative attempt from the promising director.

Karthik made his feature film debut with the horror movie Pizza which was a success. So much so that it is being remade in Hindi with the same title starring former Miss World contestant Parvathy Omanakuttan.

Jigarthanda is aiming for a release in July, according to sources and it is unclear if Karthik will be making an official response to the media and the fans regarding these ‘allegations’.

In any case, it is unlikely that many Indian fans have seen the original Korean film in question and Jigarthanda should make an entertaining and thrilling watch for the masses here.
