The biopic of Prime Minister Modi, tilted as PM Narendra Modi, was slated to release today. But in surprising circumstances, producer of the film Sandeep Singh has announced yesterday that the release has been postponed and they will reveal the new release date soon.

It is already known that multiple petitions were filed in Bombay High Court and the Supreme Court against the release of the film. Both the courts asked Election Commission and CBFC to take the final call. The EC has put the responsibility on CBFC later. Finally, as the film was not submitted for censor certification, the release got stopped.

It is still unclear when this film will hit the screens. Directed by Omung Kumar of Mary Kom fame, this film features Vivek Oberoi as the lead. His father Suresh Oberoi has bankrolled this movie along with Sandip Singh. Stay tuned for more updates on it.

Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi is playing the role of Modi in the movie. Revealing the same, the makers have finally unveiled the first look poster of the film. The poster featured Vivek Oberoi dressed just like Modi. The uncanny resemblance between Vivek and Modi is undoubtedly grabbing the attention. He is looking exactly like Narendra Modi and we can say that his performance in the movie is definitely going to impress the audience. The first look poster has increased the expectations on the movie and the tagline “Patriotism is my strength” is impressive.

Omung Kumar who previously helmed biopics like ‘Mary Kom’, ‘Sarbjit’ is wielding the megaphone for this project as well. Suresh Oberoi and Sandip Ssingh are bankrolling this project. We have to wait for a few more days to know about the release date of the film.

After Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, NTR, Jayalalitha, Manmohan Singh, a biopic on our Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also on cards. Titled as ‘PM Narendra Modi’, Omung Kumar is helming this project. Narendra Modi had run a tremendously powerful campaign on all fronts to get lected as the Prime Minister, and he had personally sought and received the support of many leading superstars in the south – which paid off to say the least..

Now, with the Modi Government starting to take off, it is the turn of the stars to take the Prime Minister up on his promises or at least so it would seem in this case.

During his campaign in Tamil Nadu, Modi had made two very important friends – Thalapathy Vijay and the Superstar Rajinikanth, both of whom were even invited to the swearing in ceremony (though now that didn’t work out so well, huh).

Na Mo’s meeting with Vijay was especially endearing as the actor took time out of his busy schedule to go meet the then Prime Ministerial candidate to show his respect. He later said he was stunned to learn that Modi was not just familiar with his work but was an admirer of it too.

Now Vijay has taken this relationship of mutual respect between them as a platform to get the Prime Minister’s attention on something close to his heart – the service taxes on cinema or rather the scrapping of it. He has written to Modi pleading him to reconsider the Government’s stand on this.

It was imposed by the previous government and has caused much harm to the film industry in India; so much so that it is in a crisis now. The tax was upheld by the Congress Government in spite of repeated pleas from the film fraternity and the Film Chamber of Commerce.

This what Vijay had to say about it in his letter of pleas to the Prime Minister:

Cinema is not only a medium that entertains masses but also generates massive revenue for the Government. But the sad part is that the industry is facing a lot of problems lately and despite the efforts of many, the attempt to revive the industry seems futile. Many theaters are turning into marriage halls and shopping malls… Many leading producers have met with heavy losses and are looking at other possible business opportunities. If this situation persists, I’m afraid the millions of people depending on the industry for their living, will lose all their jobs.

Heartfelt and honest as the letter sounds, will the Prime Minister respond and will the Government make a decision regarding this issue?

We will have to wait and see what happens now on that front.

The Indian Film And Television Directors’ Association (IFTDA) and The Indian Film And Television Producers’ Council (IFTPC) have written to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) requesting a meeting with Narendra Modi.

The film makers will raise the following issues in their meeting with the Prime Minister : reduction in entertainment tax and other multi-layered taxes, no stay on film once they are censored, one-window services to facilitate shoots, a request for an official industry status for Bollywood, among others.

The panel will include filmmakers and TV producers like Ashutosh Gowariker, Sajid Nadiadwala, Rohit Shetty, Ramesh Taurani, Vishal Bhardwaj, Rajkumar Hirani, Madhur Bhandarkar, Aanand L Rai, and Rajan Shahi.

Ashoke Pandit, the president of IFTDA, says, “The government collects heavy taxes from us but we’re not officially recognised as an industry. We’re hoping the new PM will resolve the issues at the earliest.”

Bollywood film makers to meet Modi on these issues after the IFTDA could not get their issues sorted by the previous government.

Here’s hoping that their issues are sorted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It only gets better for the audiences as a reduction in taxes would mean that the ticket prices can get cheaper!

A source close to Venkaiah Naidu says, ” Naidu anna is trying to please Pawan Kalyan and make him part of Modi’s cabinet through Rajya Sabha in the second phase of the Ministry expansion. But the power star is just not interested. He says he’s in politics to serve the people indirectly and is not interested in coming to power. The plan is explained to Pawan anna but he does not seem interested. We will wait for him to approve of things and only then we’ll tell the media about it.”

This piece of news has sure got the people of the country interested. The parliament already boasts of celebrity MPs like Hema Malini, Vinod Khanna, Manoj Tiwari, Babul Supriyo etc.

It will therefore be interesting to see if mana Power Star Pawan Kalyan accepts the offer and goes on to sit in the Parliament voicing the public opinion.

Only time will tell if Pawan Kalyan accepts the offer made to him and foregoes his stardom in Tollywood.
