Star heroine Samantha has scored a big blockbuster for the first time with the female-oriented film Oh Baby. The film has collected more than Rs. 40 crores at the box office and proved that stamina of Samantha’s stardom. Currently, the actress is boosted up to do many such movies.

Meanwhile, Telangana’s governor ESL Narasimhan has watched the movie last night along with his family members. The makers of Oh Baby organized a special screening to Narasimhan at Ramanaidu Studios. The governor enjoyed the film throughout and appreciated the efforts of the whole team.

Director Nandini Reddy was also present at the screening. The whole team members were elated by the appreciation of the governor. Oh Baby features Naga Shaurya, Teja, Rajendra Prasad and Rao Ramesh in the other prominent roles. Mickey J Meyer has composed the music for it.

It has been so long since Shruti Haasan was seen on the big screen. Her last film in Telugu was Katamarayudu which was released in 2017. Later, she started dating Britishman Micheal Corsale and also concentrated on her music career. In the meantime, she also made a couple of music albums as well.

These days, many star actresses like Nayanthara, Anushka and Samantha are proving their mettle by scoring blockbusters with lady-oriented films. Though it is a brave idea from Shruti, it would be better if she regains her stardom before going out solo in the market, as she lost all of her popularity with her absence for these two years.

Slowly, the reign of star heroines like Kajal, Tamannaah and Rakul Preet has ended and new heroines are taking their slots. Samantha is the only star actress who is still continuing her dominance by scoring consecutive hits. The film has collected around Rs. 40 crores and made Samantha a female superstar in Tollywood. She is now the only heroine after Nayanthara and Anushka, who can pull off blockbusters on their shoulders.

We hear that Samantha also hiked her remuneration after the success of Oh Baby. Apparently, she is now charging about Rs.2 crores per film, which is very high. No other heroine in Tollywood gets that much pay for a single film. Even Producers are willing to pay her the quoted amount.

That proves the stardom of Samantha in the industry right now. Currently, she is in talks for a couple of other female-oriented projects. One of them will be directed by Oh Baby’s director, Nandini Reddy.

Yesterday, Samantha officially launched the teaser of Adivi Sesh’s upcoming film Evaru. Sesh was recently seen in a blick and a miss cameo in Samantha’s Oh Baby. Both of them are good friends from a long time and this time, Samantha came forward to promote her friend’s film. Evaru will be a suspense thriller just like Sesh’s earlier films Kshanam and Goodachari.

Meanwhile, there are rumors that the film is the remake of Invisible Guest. No one has given clarity on the same but the sources confirm that the film is the official remake but Sesh made a lot of changes to the script by bringing up new characters in the script. We have to see how it is going to turn out at the box-office.

It is directed by newcomer Venkat Ramji. Regina Cassandra is the heroine of this movie. Pearl V Potluri and Param V Potluri bankrolled this film under PVP Cinemas banner. Evaru will be hitting the screens on the 15th of August.

Remaking a movie from another language is a common trend in every film industry even in this era of OTT ruling the roost. Producers are in a hunt of such movies which have universal appeal or emotional content, literally. Stoy

Baby (Lakshmi) is an old lady who has all the so-called bad qualities of being old. She runs a college canteen along with Chanti (Rajendra Prasad). As an old lady, her way of caring is different and her daughter in law is affected very much mentally and health wise due to the naggings of Baby. She gets admitted into a hospital due to a mild heart stroke. The doctor advises the family to join Baby in an old age home for the betterment of her daughter in law which hurts the baby as her granddaughter yells at her telling this. She goes from there to her canteen and she gets a call from her grandson inviting her to his musical performance and it changes the life of Baby. How her life changes?

Cast and performance

Lakshmi has done a great job in the role of Baby. Her character is the crux for the movie to workout and she bettered her role. Samantha Akkineni has done a terrific job in her role. She is fantastic in every aspect and dubbing of Chinmayi to her role helped. Rajendra Prasad is superb. Rao Ramesh once again proved himself in the emotional sequence. Naga Shaurya is nice. Teja, Pragathi, Snigdha, RJ Hemanth are good. All other actors have done a good job in their roles.

Writing Department

The story of Oh Baby is different conceptually and the screenplay is good. The dialogues of the film are written well.

Technical departments

The songs composed by Mickey J Meyer are nice. He put in a great effort in composing background score. Richard Prasad has done fine work in terms of cinematography. The editing of the film could have been better. The production values are grand.

Verdict

Oh Baby is a story that tells the life of older people in the family and their innate feelings. The film has a really unique concept which stands out from the rest of Telugu films. With such a concept in hand, director Nandini Reddy and writer Lakshmi Bhupala approached it in a very routine way like every other Telugu film with loud emotions and summarised dialogues. Even the revelation of new things is done so routine. This is a disappointing aspect of the film. The positives include Samantha Akkineni and her character which generates good humor with the body language and dialect. The emotional scenes are good but gone overboard may be to entice the family audience. The second half seemed a bit longer, maybe because of the conclusions. The film is not what the trailers or promos have promised and to summarise, Oh, baby is a film aimed for the family audience with a fantastic performance of Samantha Akkineni with a few surprises.

Speaking at the pre-release event of Oh Baby last night, Victory Venkatesh said that the film is the best in Samantha’s career till now. He stated that he has watched the film and liked it immensely. He termed Sam’s performance in the movie as absolutely outstanding.

“The way Samantha acted in both the emotional and comedy scenes is simply superb,” he further added. The event was also graced by other stalwarts like Rana Daggubati and Naga Chaitanya. The principal cast of the film Naga Shaurya, Teja Sajja and Rajendra Prasad were also present at the event.

Oh Baby is directed by Nandini Reddy. It is bankrolled jointly by Guru FIlms, Peoples Media Factory, Suresh Productions, and Kross Pictures. It is gearing up for the worldwide release on July 5.

Billed to be the remake of South Korean superhit film ‘Miss Granny’, Rao Ramesh, Rajendra Prasad, Naga Shourya and Lakshmi are playing crucial roles in this film. Today, the makers have unveiled the official trailer of the film. The 2 minutes 12 seconds video starts with Rajendra Prasad saying that he saw 70-year-old Baby (Samantha) changing into a 20-year-old lady. But Rao Ramesh doesn’t believe him and suggests him to meet a psychiatrist. Meanwhile, Samantha who got a chance to relive her youth will be seen enjoying. The trailer has been increasing the expectations on the film which is gearing up for a grand release on July 5, 2019.

Talented director Shekhar Kammula scored a massive blockbuster with his last film Fidaa. After such a huge success, everyone thought that Shekhar would do a film with any star hero but he chose to do his next with new actors. He also started the shoot of his new film last year and it will be wrapped up soon.

Meanwhile, we now hear that Shekhar has decided to do a movie with Akkineni Naga Chaitanya. Apparently, this will also be a love story and features Sai Pallavi as the female lead. Both Shekhar and Sai Pallavi earlier worked together for the Fidaa.

The shoot of this movie will go on floors once Shekhar wraps up his ongoing project. Interestingly, it is heard that Samantha will join hands with Shekhar Kammula to produce the movie.
