Subbaraj shared his thoughts saying ‘’While I was making films down south, I had an idea to make a film without dialogues. So I began writing an engaging thriller and was happy with the end result’’. The filmmaker’s Tamil Musical – Gangster won two national awards for Best supporting actor and Best Editing at the award ceremony

Subbaraj does not want his new project, Mercury to come across as an experiment and also plans to release it globally.

He said, ‘’When there are no dialogues, it is a challenge not only for the director but for the entire crew. For the actor dialogues facilitate improvisation at the dubbing stage but with no lines, you can convey things only through your performance and that is a challenge that everybody took sportingly’’

On his decision to get on board with Prabhudheva, Subbaraj said ‘’I like Prabhudheva as an actor. We have seen him more as a choreographer and director lately but I felt he has a lot of untapped potential as an actor as the films he has featured in previously are all about song, dance and comedy. He has never played an antagonist before. When I approached him with the script and said that it didn’t have any songs or even dialogues, he was kicked about it and immediately came on board.’’

Prabhudheva is excited about his silent venture, the actor said, “Mercury offers a very unique take in the thriller genre it also offers a huge scope to show case one’s acting potential. With all this and an intelligent director like Karthik Subbaraj backing it, the experience was superb.’’

Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, starring Prabhudheva in the lead and Deepak Paramesh, Remya Nambeesan and Anish Padman in pivotal roles, Mercury is slated to release on 13th April, 2018.

Abhinetri Movie Review – Watchable Horror Comedy Flick

Shooting and completing a movie is very tedious and energy consuming process which at times makes the makers less interested on that film. If making it in a single language is tedious and energy consuming. how would it be like to make it in three different languages?? Answer is so simple. It’s an impossible and very much time taking task. Director Vijay made it possible and made a movie titled Abhinetri in just 60 days in three different languages. He proved that anything can be done perfectly in certain time given when we go with perfect planning. This trilingual movie is titled as Abhinetri in Telugu which stars Thamannah Bhatia, Prabhu deva and Sonusood. Let’s see how it works on us!!

Story

Abhinetri Photos

Krishna (Prabhudeva) is an employee lives in Mumbai in a corporate company. As he hails from a tiny village he always wanted to marry a girl who is more of like posh and westernized by which he thinks he can gain some respect and social status in his village. He ends up marrying Devi (Tamannaah Bhatia) , a village girl due to his family pressure. He returns back to Mumbai with her and he tries to hide it with his friends and neighbours about Devi and his marriage. He tries a lot to send her back to his village but fails. Suddenly she is possessed by Ruby who committed suicide in the apartment they are living. What happened to Ruby?? How Krishna finally solves his problems and settle his marriage forms the rest of the story.

Cast and Performance

Thamannah Bhatia is the showstopper in this Abhinetri. She has given a fantastic performance as Devi and possessed Ruby. She shines with her dances and moves. She looks super gorgeous on screen. Prabhudeva is back on Telugu screen after a very long time and is delight to fans and people to watch him dance on screen. He is equally good as Krishna. Sonusood is fantastic and had given the required for the role to succeed and connect to the audience. Sapthagiri is humorous and is highly successful in bringing out laughs. Murli Sharma, Prudhvi and Amy Jackson are fine. Others did to the extent they are given.

Writing Department

Abhinetri has a very simple storyline and it seems like it had been tried many times. Screenplay is good. Dialogues are okay and humorous.

Technical Departments

Music composed by Sajid-Wajid and other composers are okay and Chill Maar is good. Background score composed by Gopi Sunder is nice. Cinematography by Manush Nandan is fantastic and captured the mood very well. Editing is okay and should have been more racy and crispy. Dances and movements are well choreographed. Production values are superb.

Highlights

  • Tamannah Bhatia as Devi
  • Chill Maar Song
  • Situational comedy
  • Cinematography by Manush Nandan

Minus

  • Predictable and routine story
  • Music

Verdict
This movie begins with a flashback and goes on a nice tempo. Every poster and trailer of the film gave us a insight that it is of a horror comedy genre and sadly there is nothing much from this genre and it disappoints the audience very much. Even laughs are not more nor the horror elements. The horror part and suspense continues till the character of Ruby is revealed. After this it hardly makes us experience fear. This movie has some good and well composed dance moments from the leads and is enjoyable highly. Director A L Vijay tried to tell the story he had in his own way and it doesn’t entertain much. Sometimes this movie makes audience crave for some comedy or horror element. The best part is that the narrative is so simple and straightforward without giving any room for confusion. To summarise, this Abhinetri is a watchable horror comedy flick.

Peaks of Publicity for Abhinetri

These days, makers have realized the importance of publicity in making a film hit, and they are spending lots of money for this purpose.

Abhinetri Publicity
Abhinetri Publicity

There are instances when this publicity went overboard and killed the film’s prospects with the content not meeting the expectations. Prabhu Deva seems to be going the same path with his new production venture ‘Abhinetri’. Starring Tamannah Bhatia in a lead role, this horror film is being made as a trilingual. It is titled Devil in Tamil and ‘Two in One’ in Hindi.

Makers have recently released a making video and did so much hoopla about it. But, after watching the video, only negative feedback and comments are observed. Similar kinds of efforts to create huge hype were shown by the team when they had released posters and song teasers as well, but none yet made a strong impact on viewers.

We have to wait until Dussehra and see if at least the film has good content.

As per latest reports, megastar has agreed to pay a whopping Rs 1 Cr to Prabhu Deva for composing just two songs. As he was signed in the first place without finalizing the remuneration, now makers had to subjugate to his hefty demand.

After turning a director, Prabhu Deva has stopped composing dances for others’ films. After recently establishing his new production house, he is quite busy as an actor and producer as well. Amidst such busy commitments, he agreed to lend his hand in ‘Khaidi No 150,’ so he feels the pay is not too much.

Makers are confident that the two stylish songs to be composed by Prabhu Deva will be worth his hefty pay.
