That’s right folks, the epic animated flick starring the one and only Superstar Rajinikanth and Deepika Padukone can now be seen from the comfort of your home!

Well, not right away of course – the producers of the movie Eros Now are planning an online web premiere of the film this Saturday on June 28th!

They obviously came to this decision due to the success of the movie at the box office so far and what better way to set another benchmark with a flick that’s already set quite a few.

Kochadaiiyaan was developed and scripted by KS Ravikumar, who by the way is currently directing Rajini in Lingaa. It was directed by the lovely Soundarya Ashwin, the superstar’s daughter.

The movie received mixed reviews in the beginning with some focusing on the flaws in technology and the less than desirable visuals in some parts, but most of the people enjoyed the film and have praised Soundarya’s ambition and hard work for completing such a herculean task.

The movie employed photorealistic animation using motion capture and other technological wonders, which has been brought to the Indian audiences for the very first time.

Deepika Padukone though had a tough time with it, because her digital avatar looked positively weird in some shots and she inevitably became the butt of many trending jokes and online punch lines. Obviously not a happy camper, the actress has since chosen to distance herself from the promotional campaign of the movie leaving almost the lion’s share of it to Soundarya in the process.

But hey, who can blame her – she was hoping after all, that this would be her first footstep in to the southern film world and the reality turned out to be a bitter disappointment for her.

But on all other fronts, Kochadaiiyaan has been doing well. Let’s not forget it is also a 3d film and it features the music of maestro AR Rahman.

Will the web version offer 3d options? That remains to be seen.

With the revolutionary and epic animated film Kochadaiiyaan raking in the big money and getting a warm reception from the audience, there has been a somewhat shocking development – Rajni may not have acted the full role of Kochadaiiyaan!

Yes, reports or rather viral news has been spreading that a television actor has come forward with claims that he served as the dupe for Rajni – not just in action scenes but voice too – in many parts of the flick!

Well, the unconfirmed reports indicate the actor claimed so in his social media page whilst giving ‘thanks’ to the Kochadaiiyaan team for the opportunity and honor of a lifetime.

Apparently, the film makers had used him in many places as substitute for Rajni so as not to completely strain the Superstar physically due to the exhausting shoot. After all, Rajnikanth was, at the time, still recovering from his physical ailments and given the fact that his daughter was directing, it seems like a good explanation.

In any case, the movie which shows only animated digital avatars of the actors ran a pretty powerful promotional campaign advertising the ‘Rajnikanth brand’ for the movie – were the audience cheated when they believed they were watching, at least in some small capacity, the performance of their idol the whole span of the lengthy movie?

Or is just a necessary step that had to be taken that had no major effect on the big picture?

Deepika Padukone’s entry in to the southern film industry and that too in a revolutionary Rajinikanth animated epic was the talk of tinsel town and the fandom at large.

The gorgeous young starlet was paid a fortune, close to Rs. 5 crores according to rumors, to be a part of Kochadaiiyaan and the actress also saw this as the golden opportunity to make her mark in the south. But did things really work out for her? The answer is probably… no. They really didn’t.

The movie apparently focused on Raijni too much and not just that, to add insult to injury, Deepika has become the butt of jokes due to her animated avatar in the flick!

The filming of the movie was a hard deal and Deepika really went the extra mile, reportedly, to get it as right as Soundarya’ direction required her to. It was after all, an animated film which used motion capture and photo realism, and in the end it all depended on the team behind the screens as far as how each actor looked and felt in the finished movie.

Unfortunately though, Deepika’s character came out… ahem, not as well as she expected and her digital image looked, shall we say ‘a bit off putting’ at times on screen.

What started off as plain criticizing of her character by the critics or just failing to mention her at all in reviews, soon turned in an online humor trend about the role and Deepika’s animated self being shared and used in jokes!

Well, this seems to have upset the actress enough and now that her hopes of the movie launching her reputation in the south are coming crashing down on her, the Bengaluru beauty has chosen to distance herself from the movie to salvage what’s left of the situation.

Not only has she not tweeted or commented anything regarding the movie’s success in the social media, her absence in the promotional campaign of the movie has been noted by many. Right now, it is the movie’s director Soundarya Ashwin who is single handedly handling the promotion of her dream project.

One can hardly blame Deepika though – no one likes to be laughed at by millions for something that’s not entirely your fault…

After making a friendly meeting overtly politicised, there is a new twist to the NarendraModi – Rajini camaraderie. The southern superstar will now organise a special screening for BJP’s star Prime Ministerial candidate in Ahmedabad. While Modi recently met Rajini on a personal level, looks like the star attraction and celeb friendship is going places.

As per the sources, the screening at Ahmedabad will be attended by Soundarya Rajinikanth, the youngest daughter of Thalaivar who also made the film. NaMo was all praise for Rajini when they met at his residence in Chennai for ‘Chai’. The much talked about project down south starring Rajinikanth and Sonakshi Sinha in the lead roles will take off in May, confirm the sources.

Sonakshi Sinha, who has now left to attend the IIFA awards at Tampa Baby this year, will soon return to commence shooting for the project.

“Sonakshi has just left for IIFA and post the event she would be taking an overseas holiday. Once back, she would begin shooting for this Tamil film with Rajinikanth” confirmed a source close to the actress.

Rajinikanth is awaiting the release of his magnum opus Kochadaiiyaan, that stars Deepika Padukone as the female lead.

“Very few people in the industry get an opportunity to do a film with Rajinikanth. If I had to make a debut in South, it had to be something as big as this. I can’t wait to begin shooting for him in May” said Sonakshi.

The film that is yet to be untitled will be directed by ace director of Tamil, K S Ravichandran and bears a storyline of different generations and a plot travelling in time back and forth. The story completely justifies the age gap between Rajini and Sonakshi, say the film crew sources.

“It is a new language, new people and new industry. Yes, the film is basically in Tamil and it is going to be a new experience. I believe they would be releasing the film in Hindi as well” Sonakshi added.

It would be interesting to see a film that actually justifies the huge age gap between both stars!

This is it, finally! After a lot of speculation as to release dates and a previous misunderstanding that the movie was to be out on May 1, the people behind the epic picture have finally confirmed the actual release date – May 9th!

The epic, photo realistic, 3d animation film ‘Kochadaiiyaan’ starring Superstar Rajnikanth in multiple roles and Bollywood beauty Deepika Padukone in the lead female role is to be released on May 1.

After a meeting earlier today, the makers of the movie decided on the date and it was announced by Rajni’s PR team via Twitter.

The mega flick cost roughly Rs. 125 crores to make and is the first of its kind in India. It was directed by none other than Soundarya Ashwin, the daughter of Rajnikanth and was produced by Eros International.

The maestro himself, A R Rahman, composed the melodies of this film and actors such as Jackie Shroff, Nasser, Shobhana and others form the rest of the cast.

The movie is a fictional one based loosely on the historical Tamil Pandya king Kochadaiiyaan Ranadheeran.

In lieu of promoting Kochadaiiyaan, daughter of the Southern Superstar Rajinikanth, Soundarya opened up in a candid chat, sharing her views on the trending jokes of Rajinikanth. The super kid who produced the 3D tech film about the warrior Kochadaiiyaan, expressed few hearty things that make her father a superhero in the likes of Chuck Norris.

She particularly replied to the over the top jokes made on Rajini. “I think each person has his own identity. He is worshipped because of the way he is. He is by far the most true and honest person you will ever meet. He will be the same to everyone. He is the same to the biggest and the smallest person. He is honest to himself and to what he does” she said while talking to PTI.

“He practices what he preaches. I cannot comment on what separates him from his contemporaries but I believe he has his own identity and he is what he is. There is a lot of under current, a lot of respect for every Rajinikanth Joke. It is not that people come up with these things, it is because my father can do these impossible things, and I think only he can” Soundarya expressed.

The daughter who is known for her beauty and talent, worked very hard on this project and is quite proud about it. Kochadaiiyaan is a 3 D film with photorealistic motion caption picture technology that was earlier used in Hollywood biggies like Avatar and The Adventures of Tintin. Kochadaiiyaan will officially mark a new advancement in animation for the Indian Cinema.

Soundarya stated that Rajinikanth the brand itself is a game changer for the movie.“I believe he will be the game changer because animation has not been understood in our country yet, as it is still considered cartoon. In our country, again because of the lack of budget, time and trained technicians, a lot of films have not done justice to what animation can do” she said.
