Rajinikanth’s Kabali has got a flying start at the box office worldwide. Even as mixed responses came in from the audience and critics alike, reviewers, Kabali is smashing box office records with its collections. The film’s shows are witnessing 90 percent occupancy in South India, and even Hindi shows have recorded over 50% occupancy on Kabali day two screening on Saturday.

The movie has collected around Rs. 48 crores at the Indian box office despite mixed reviews and has now emerged as the highest grossing Indian film With its day one earnings of approximately Rs 48 crore, the film is looking at over Rs 120 crore weekend business. On Friday, the film made Rs 21.5 crore in Tamil Nadu alone.

However, the film’s producer S Thanu left everyone shocked when he claimed Kabali has earned Rs 250 crore on Friday itself. A statement said the movie has earned Rs 100 crore from theaters in Tamil Nadu itself. “In India, the film has earned Rs 250 crore, which includes Rs 100 crore from Tamil Nadu and Rs 150 crore from places outside the state in India.”.

In the US, where the film released on 400 screens, it has become Rajinikanth’s highest grosser ever. With these collections, Kabali has already broken Salman Khan’s Sultan and Aamir Khan’s PK record in the US. “#Kabali [Tamil+Telugu] sets new benchmarks in preview shows in USA-Canada… Takes an EPIC start on Thu: $ 1,925,379 [₹ 12.93 cr]. Mega Power Star Ram Charan has been making plans to watch Superstar Rajinikanth’s Kabali, which was released on Friday. He is planning to take a short break from his busy shoot schedule to watch Kabali. Ram Charan shared the poster of Kabali on his official Facebook page and posted as, “Thalaivar ?#‎Rajinikanth sir does it again! The euphoria around the movie is amazing! Looking forward to watching Kabali!”

As per the latest updates, Kabali was released in more than 12,000 screens across India as well as in the UK and has crossed $2 Million Mark from its premiere alone and crushed the record of several blockbuster movies. Surprisingly, Kabali has broken the record created by another South Indian mega movie like SS Rajamouli’s directorial venture Baahubali and Salman Khan starrer recently released, Sultan.

It is directed by Pa Ranjith and Radhika Apte, and Dhanishka played the female lead role. Kabali was released in more than 12,000 screens across India as well as in the UK. Meanwhile, Ram Charan is busy shooting for upcoming movie Dhruva, which is the remake of Tamil smash hit Thani Oruvan. The film shooting is progressing at the brisk pace under the direction of Surender Reddy. Rakul Preet Singh is playing the female lead role. The makers are planning to release the movie on the eve of Dussehra.

Story

Kabaleeswaran aka Kabali (Rajinikanth) is a man who lives life with a purpose. He never allows anyone around him go into wrong path. His wife Kundhanavalli (Radhika Apte) helps him out in all endeavors. He becomes gangster with the ideals of Seetharamaraju (Nassar) and ends up in jail. He is released after 30 years after a deep thinking by the authorities. He finds that Kuala Lumpur has gone against his ideals while he is away in jail and he start to sort out all the problems.His family is destroyed by Tony (Winston Chao) with him being in jail. Kabaali goes on revenge on Tony for all the problems he created to people and him. How Kabaali do this forms the rest of the story.

Cast and Performance

Superstar Rajinikanth is terrific as Kabaali. He pulled of his role with a lot of intensity and style. When he is doing a gangster based movie, one will definitely expect his mannerisms and style to be same as Baasha, but he surpassed this and made it a delight with his Kabaali swag. Radhika Apte is perfect for her role and complements Rajinikanth well in all the scenes. The Malaysian villain, Winston Chao is a great finding and stands up as a perfect villain against Rajinikanth. Tamil actor, Dinesh as Jeeva is good and performed well. Dhansika as sniper is well. Rithvika as Meena, a drug addict did well in her portions. Kalairasan is role. John Vijay is perfect. Nassar as Seetharamaraju is good.

Other actors from Tamil industry performed well to the extent of their roles.

Writing Department

Story by Pa Ranjith is simple and good. Dialogues by him and Sahithi together are okay. Screenplay is slow.

Technical Departments

Songs composed by Santosh Narayan ranges from good to average. He has given his best for the background music and is definitely one of the highlights of the movie and one of the best in his career. Cinematography by G Murali, who works with Pa Ranjith regularly completely complemented the vision and sensibilities of Pa Ranjith and did a very fine job. Editor Praveen did his job well despite some still to be made cuts. Stunts and action sequences are very well choreographed and etched. Production values of V creations are super rich.

Verdict

Kabaali starts with the intro of gangsters and their own interests with a voice over. It then goes into jail where Kabaali is captivated in. Introduction of Rajinikanth is done so simple yet in pure Pa Ranjith’s style with a book named “My father is Ballaiah”. Director Pa Ranjith narrated the story with each and every detailing from the first frame itself. Generally audience expect a very racy movie from Rajinikanth, but, this movie is an exception to that which is purely made with the sensibilities of Pa Ranjith. Director Pa Ranjith sticked to his story and does not deviate even to show the heroism of Rajinikanth. It is more Pa Ranjith film than Superstar Rajinikanth’s film. To sum up, Kabaali js a visual narrative of a gangster who has ideals for the people.
