Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor, who is pretty much relieved after the success of his latest film ‘Udta Punjab,’ has another reason to celebrate.

His wife Mira Rajput is currently pregnant with their first baby. Shahid said that he has taken full paternity leave and has decided to stay with his wife until she delivers the baby. He added that he witnessed how much his mother struggled when his younger brother (Ishaan) was born, so he wants to stay by his wife’s side and help her go through the phase.

Meanwhile, ‘Udta Punjab’ is doing pretty great at the box office. The controversy created by the Censor Board seems to have helped the film to gain the curiosity among movie lovers. Also starring Alia Bhatt and Kareena Kapoor, the film is praised for its authentic portrayal of drug menace in Punjab.

The troubles for the controversial film ‘Udta Punjab’ seems to be unending.

After the uncut version of the movie was leaked online just days before its scheduled theatrical release on 17th June, now it is heard that a local cable TV channel, Shakthi, in Puducherry, broadcasted the entire leaked film, giving nightmares to the filmmakers.

The news came to the light after it was posted on his Twitter page by none other than Tamil star hero Suriya, seeking a curb on piracy. It may be noted that Shakti TV in Puducherry is notoriously famous for showing pirated versions of the latest films, but it went a step ahead to telecast the unreleased film by acquiring the leaked copy.

However, the support the film is receiving from all corners of the film industry is applause worthy.

Amidst the much hullaballoo, Udtaa Punjab has finally hit the screens with a hype that’s unusual for a Shahid Kapoor starrer.

The movie unveils in a very interesting scene where a drug dealer from Pakistan throws a packet like a discus throw into a field of Punjab, and the title appears UDTAA PUNJAB.

The film primarily deals with the drug menace in Punjab which is happening at a huge scale. It takes the help of four characters to showcase the situation and what happens to the people related to it.

Gabru aka Tommy Singh is a rockstar singer, who has an insane following among the youth. He became a star at the age of 21 and there was no looking back. He was into drugs at a very early age and his songs also revolved around getting high. The lyrics of his songs became a philosophy for his fans, where they can do anything for the drugs. He is their role model. Such a dangerous role model that a young lad even kills his mother for not giving the money for drugs. Gabru’s career starts sinking when his inspiration (the drugs) starts making him go out of his mind. His business deals get broken and he also gets caught in a police raid on his birthday party night where he is drowning in drugs.

On the other hand we have Preet (Kareena Kapoor) a doctor who is a specialist in rehabilitation of the drug addicts. On of her patients is brother to an A.S.I Sarjit. Sarjit works mostly at checkpost and earns a good amount every other week for letting go the drug trucks into the town. He is least bothered about the effect until he learns that his brother became a victim of that. Sarjit feels guilty and starts working with Preet to get the information of the people behind the whole drug kingdom.

Another important character of the film is Alia Bhatt, who is actually a hockey player, but turns to labour as a result of poverty. She ends up getting into the hands of drug dealers. She is forced to drugs and they push her into prostitution.

The rest of the film deals with Sarjit and Preet’s efforts in the investigation and also Shahid’s and Alia’s battle to escape from the respective mess they got into.

The movie is definitely much-needed and shall be an eye opener for the awareness. A strong message that has to be conveyed to the youth. Abhishek Chaubey seemed to be very honest in his intentions and it shows. He with his art and conviction conveyed the seriousness of the issue.

Past the interval, the movie takes lot of time to get back to interesting mode. Shahid was phenomenal. His screen presence was fiery. Kareena was pleasant as the doctor and very convincing. The Punjabi actor was also impressive. Alia looked out of the place and the Bihari accent and her acting seemed artificial. She is one of the major drawbacks to the film.

All in all, Udta Punjab is a serious film that deserves a watch to get an awareness of the dark world.

The controversial “Udta Punjab” movie has been leaked online, much to the dismay of makers, who had waged a long battle with the Censor Board to bring out the film uncut.

A senior police official confirmed that the film’s director, Abhishek Chaubey, gave a written complaint requesting the police to look into the issue as the film was leaked on the torrents just days before its scheduled theatrical release on June 17, this Friday.

The leaked version has a watermark which suggests that the copy was submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification. The makers are extremely worried that people would watch the leaked version before its theatrical release and it might lead to significant loss of business.

It may be noted that Udta Punjab had earlier created a huge stir after the CBFC refused to certify the film unless the makers did not agree to 89 cuts including the deletion of the word ‘Punjab’ from the title. Finally, the Bombay High Court declared the verdict in film’s favor.

When everyone is very excited about the release of the film Udta Punjab, there is a controversy on the movie now. Human Rights Awareness Association, a Punjab-based NGO, on Wednesday sought to put on hold the screening of the film. The primary reason behind their complaint is that they argue Udta Punjab has projected the agrarian State in a bad light. Although the high court has given a clean chit for the film in many ways and has said that the censor board should not curb the creativity of the filmmakers. In this scenario the latest complaint on the film is disappointing.

The High Court had directed the film producer to make one cut and insert three disclaimers. The makers are very much happy about the decision of the high court, but this sudden controversy is something which is like an unnecessary publicity stunt.

The Bombay High Court has cleared Bollywood film Udta Punjab for release with one cut. This is a very good news and positive sign from the court. A lawyer of the film’s producer Phantom Films, which had moved court against a series of cuts imposed on the film by the censor board but finally the Bombay high court after hearing the versions of both the sides took the stand of the film and said that there is nothing wrong shown in the film.

Filmmakers don’t support drugs’ and ‘characters show facets of menace’ are the primary observations of the censor board. Also, the court clarified that there is no reason to delete word Punjab from sign board, and even nothing to suggest sovereignty is questioned. Drugs availability highlighted and the downfall of a rockstar depicted. Also, the cops struggling with drug menace is shown in the film. CBFC not empowered by law to censor films as the word censor is not included in the cinematography act is what cleared by the high court of Bombay.

The Udta Punjab controversy is the much-talked issue in the country right now. All the film related personalities are coming out with their individual opinions and are urging the censor board not to kill the creativity of a filmmaker. Anurag Kashyap is also fighting against them. Telugu film industry also reacted in support to Udta Punjab and its director Anurag.

“I am a Punjabi, and I don’t mind watching the film. All Punjabis also has to treat a film like a film and even after watching the film I don’t think the love and affection towards Punjab by the people living in the state will change. Earlier there were many films on Terrorism with Mumbai backdrop, and all Mumbai people welcomed it with open arms and Punjabis also should do the same now.” reacted Rakul Preet Singh.

Lakshmi Manchu also posted her opinion in support to the film. She says that films are the tools to express the individual opinions, and she says that it is not good on part of the censor board. Along with her, many other prominent personalities like Raghavender Rao, Deva Katta, SS Rajamouli, Siddartha and few others came forward in support to the film.

‘Udta Punjab,’ an upcoming Bollywood film starring Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Kareena Kapoor Khan, is one of the much-discussed films of this year.

Thanks to the Censor Board, ‘Udta Punjab’ has got huge publicity. Since the film deals with drug trafficking and its abuse in Punjab, the Censor Board refused to allot certificate if the advised 40 cuts were not implemented. On the other hand, makers of Udta Punjab claimed that no one can make an authentic film about ‘drugs’ and its effects on people without using bold scenes and cuss words.

Both the censor board and the filmmakers were reluctant, so the film which was supposed to be released in April is tentatively slated for release on June 17.

Ram Gopal Varma tweeted that the film should have been named ‘Udta India’ or ‘Udta World’ owing to the subject of ‘Drugs’.

News has been making rounds in film circles that Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Kareena Kapoor Khan starrer upcoming Bollywood film ‘Udta Punjab’ has been banned by the Censor Board.

The film directed by Abhishek Chaubey deals with the drug mafia in Punjab. The trailer has already created huge interest and controversy with the characters speaking many cuss words. Film’s co-producer Anurag Kashyap and Balaji Motion Pictures have jointly said that ‘Udta Punjab’ has not been banned.

The statement added that there has been a difference of opinion between the CBFC and the filmmakers regarding the censor certificate with Board demanding for the removal of cuss words and makers acting against it. The Revision Committee are currently reviewing Udta Punjab, and the issue will be soon settled.

The release date will be announced as soon as the censor is done.

The gritty trailer of Udta Punjab just hit the internet like a storm. And from the looks of it Abhishek Chaubey, has given Indian cinema something that will be remembered for a very long long time.

The film stars Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt and Diljit Dosanjh in the leading roles. The characters they play are connected by one common thread drugs. While the trailer is gritty it also manages to have overtones of dark humour and romance.

Kareena Kapoor plays a doctor, who is helping Diljit, playing a cop, is investigating illegal selling of prescription drugs. Diljit arrests Shahid, who plays a substance abusing rockstar. And Shahid is somehow friends with Alia, who seems to be the most mysterious character. All the actors have done a fantastic job.

The music is also too good and goes perfectly well with the trailer. Special appreciation must go for Shahid, he gets into the skin of the character. But, it is yet to seen that the ex-couple Shahid and Kareena may share at least one screen together or not.

Kareena Kapoor Khan, who was recently seen as a career oriented woman in ‘Ki and Ka’, will be seen as a doctor in her upcoming film ‘Udta Punjab’.

In the motion poster, Kareena Kapoor Khan says, “Jashan purameijo ho rahahaiuska idea haiaapko? Amritsar ka, Taran Taranka, Punjab ka, hai idea aapko?” The glam-queen is seen as a simple doctor.

The makers of the film have released Kareena’s look after releasing the looks of Shahid Kapoor and Diljit Dosanjh from the film.
