A riveting tale which is about to mark another cinematic benchmark, the biopic on the life of Indian boxer Mary Kom, is arousing our interests day by day!

After the first look, the very first teaser from the Bhansali house hits the media. And we must say it is very gripping. Starting on a loud cheery note, with a boxing ring, Indian pride Mary Kom is shown making her way to the ring. Priyanka Chopra in and as Mary Kom, is just marveling. The teaser doesn’t give much away but whatever little we see is delighting.

Piggy Chops had been prepping a lot for this role and when a film comes from the Bhansali banner, expectations are sky high.

Priyanka Chopra who was shooting Zoya Akhtar’s “Dil Dhadakne Do” on a cruise liner sailing through Europe, left the star-studded ship to return to Mumbai.

The reason for the same is a road in Andheri which was named after her late father Dr. Ashok Chopra, on June 10, to mark his first death anniversary.

The inauguration of the road which is called Lieutenant Colonel Ashok Chopra Marg was followed by a memorial which was attended by friends and relatives.

When Priyanka expressed her desire to be there for her father’s first death anniversary, her director Zoya and the film’s producer Ritesh Siddhwani had quickly agreed to a short leave. The actress, however, returned to the sets within four days.

When contacted, Priyanka said, “It’s a surprise and a huge honour. My family and I are overwhelmed. There was no way I would miss this for anything in the world. My father was always very grateful for what he had and spent a lot of time and energy in helping those less for tunate. We are so proud that he is being recognised for his efforts.
My dad loved Mumbai and now there will always be a part of him here.”

Dr Chopra served in the Indian Army for 27 years and also served as Head of Surgery at an Army hospital in Leh.

Priyanka has often paid him tributes in interviews and proudly flaunts a “Daddy’s Girl” tattoo on her arm, a description which is also part of her Wikipedia page.

Priyanka Chopra’s upcoming film Mary Kom release date has been postponed to buy time to give the film the global appeal of “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag”.

The schedule will now avoid a clash with Hrithik-Katrina starrer “Bang Bang” and Shahid Kapoor’s “Haider”.

“Mary Kom” is now being revamped into a much larger sports bio-pic than before.

A source close to the project said, “The producers Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Viacom 18 took a joint decision last month to postpone the release date so that Mary Kom could be further developed into another “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag”. The global success of Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Bhaag Milkha Bhaag prompted the makers to take this move. They are now looking Mary Kom as the female counterpart of Milka Singh’s bio-pic. The global appeal of Mary Kom is much more contemporary than Milkha. While Milkha Singh’s bio-pic was retrospective in structure, Mary Kom is being made even as the real-life Mary Kom prepares for the next Olympics.”

“The project is now being formatted into two different versions, one for the Indian and the other for the international market with the Indian version being longer”, said a source from the production team.

The source added, “The version for the Indian market would have songs and more scenes showing Mary Kom’s home life. These up-gradations in the original design of Mary Kom would take time. We’re in no hurry to complete the film anymore.”

The decision of Mary Kom Release date was taken after seeing the first rushes of the film.

Well, it was inevitable. And now, it has happened!

In a move to squash the biopic of her former manager, Prakash Jaju, Priyanka Chopra sends legal notice to ex-boyfriend Aseem Merchant, who is producing the film.

The actress believes that the film will revolve around her personal and professional life.

The notice states:

“Our client is shocked to note that while all the news articles mention the proposed film as your biopic, the promotions largely refer to our client and inclusion of aspects of her and her family life rather than references to you.

You are intending to collude with Mr Merchant in violation of our client’s rights, including right to privacy, defaming our client and lowering her reputation, seeking to subject her to hatred and ridicule.

Our client calls upon you to withdraw all the publicity material of the film with immediate effect, desist using or referring to any personal or confidential information about her and/or her family, desist from producing, releasing the proposed film and tender an unconditional apology to her.”

Priyanka had a fallout with Jaju which led to him being arrested and imprisoned for 67 days in 2008.

According to Jaju, Priyanka owed him a huge amount of money and refused to clear his dues. The situation worsened when Jaju allegedly started interfering in Priyanka’s personal life. This led to her father filing an FIR against Jaju, stating that he was not only making false allegations against his daughter but also threatening the family members.

Aseem, who was dating Priyanka when she became Miss World,has maintained that the film, 67 Days, is a “biopic of Priyanka’s ex-manager Jaju”.

When contacted, Aseem told a media house that his legal team is looking into the matter.

Meanwhile, Jaju insists, “If she has any objection even after reading the script, then we shall drop the film. I don’t want to hurt her sentiments. The film is about me, not Priyanka. She is just a chapter in that.”

Priyanka Chopra, who’ll essay the role of World Boxing champion MC Mary Kom in the biopic, can be seen in a boxing ring in the stills that have been released.

Reportedly, the make-up artists had a tough time designing Priyanka’s look for the movie.

A Make-up artist was quoted saying, “Yes we did have a tough time designing her look. Since Mary Kom ma’am belongs to North East, we had to ensure that Priyanka ma’am looked the same. The portion surrounding the eyes and cheeks had to be highlighted to match to Mary Kom ma’am look.”

“The biggest challenge was to ensure that Priyanka ma’am did not look her natural self while essaying the role of Mary Kom. She had to..just HAD to look like her in all the scenes!”, added the artist.

Priyanka is seen wearing a red and blue boxing kit in the pictures and in one of them she is seen boxing another woman. The former Miss World underwent rigorous training to get into the skin of her character. Reportedly, Mary Kom’s actual trainers have trained the actress for the film.

Directed by Omung Kumar, the biopic is being produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Well, here’s hoping that Priyanka lives up to the hype surrounding the movie. Earlier, a biopic on Milkha Singh was beautifully essayed by Farhan Akhtar who got into the skin of the character impeccably.

Only time will tell if Priyanka will be able to do the same.

It takes some fortune and destiny to stand along with somebody like John Travolta, the original Hollywood’s dancing star who sensationalised some crazy moves with the cult epic, Grease. Now, the lucky woman who finally got to do the act was none other than Priyanka Chopra. IIFA makes things possible.

On the grand Awards night at IIFA 2014, the world saw with bated breath as Priyanka Chopra danced with Travolta for an out and out mass number from the film Gunday. The song ‘Tu Ne Mari Entriyan’ took a whole new tangent when Priyanka playfully pulled Travolta on to the stage and both danced.

The Hollywood hunk got all the moves right, thanks to his great appetite for dance still undying from within. The audience went rapt when East met the West and Bollywood earned a new milestone with the Gangs of LA.

And if you thought that was it, John went a step ahead and danced with Hrithik Roshan for Staying Alive, making the BeeGees totally come alive. This happened when Travolta went on stage to collect an Award for his Outstanding Contribution to International Cinema. Kevin Spacey was another surprise element, when he did the Lungi Dance with Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor. This, wearing the actual Lungis!

This was a perfect award ceremony that became global and brought the Bollywood stars to the attention of Hollywood. So don’t be surprised if you see either Hrithik or PC starring in one of the Hollywood films soon!

While many film celebrities of Bollywood willingly postponed their travel to Tampa Bay in order to vote, there are celebs who rushed early for the pre award formalities of IIFA 2014 and had to miss voting for Lok Sabha Elections in the country. These actors cited prior commitment to attend IIFA as an excuse to miss voting.

Actors like Priyanka Chopra, Hrithik Roshan, Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit Nene, Sonakshi Sinha, Shahid Kapoor, Bipasha Basu, Abhay Deol and Vivek Oberoi, who earlier spoke about the importance of voting, skipped the day for fun yonder. Actress Deepika Padukone, Malaika Arora, Kalki Koechlin and Yami Gautam are few others who took off early to Florida to concentrate on the event.

IIFA director Sabbas Joseph made a statement to this effect, reasoning out the act of the stars – “Commitments and announcement of the IIFA dates were made many months before the ballot date for Mumbai residents was announced. Contracts were signed and announcements made… Once the show is advertised, it cannot be cancelled or postponed… (it) would cause unimaginable losses.”

Actors make a tremendous impact on the audience, both reel and real. It is one thing to keep up the end of the bargain, and quite another to give it a miss. The overall voting percentage of Mumbai plummeted badly as compared to Chennai yesterday, sending hate waves with people.

After shooting a fragile wedding scene lately, Priyana Chopra shot for an action scene where she was injured. The actress was doing a boxing scene in the biopic Mary Kom when she got injured under the eye. Director Omung Kumar had to halt the shooting for an hour.

This happened at Dharamsala when a boxer from North East hit her very hard accidentally because of miscalculated moves with timing. The actress immediately fell down, injuring her eye. Thankfully it is not very serious and the lady resumed the shot after an hour.

Make up technician UdayShirale who was working on the prosthetic make up for the actress told PTI – “Priyanka was filming a boxing scenewith an actor from the North-East. She fell on the floor due to the impact. She got the shot spot on, so director Omung Kumar decided to retain it. The cut mark that you will eventually see on screen under the eye is real but we did touch it up with makeup to make it look deeper” he said.

The technician who had fixed a prosthetic piece on her eyes to give her eastern looks confirmed – “The prosthetics haven’t taken me longer than an hour. Mostly, its regular make up and she’d be ready in 20 minutes flat”
Priyanka recently confirmed that Mary Kom was by far the toughest role that she had ever portrayed. The actress tweeted about her experience working for the film, saying that it was tumultuous yet wonderful. PC also stated that Mary Kom is the story of every woman who wants to be larger than what she is meant to be.
