Social media campaign against Koothara?

Social media campaign against Koothara?
Now this is disconcerting to say the least – but director Srinath Rajendran claims there is a campaign going on in the social media against his movie Koothara, which came out a few days ago and is famous for the unique extended cameo of Mohanlal it features.

Social-Media-Koothara

Srinath said this in an interview to an online portal, and he is definitely very upset over this. He calls the ‘attack’ against the movie going on in the social media quite organized and feels that there is underhanded politics behind it.

“It was only after Koothara came out that I realized the extent of the politics behind all of this, ” says the young film maker. The pretty famous criticism of the movie – which (let’s face it) was kind of an inevitable one if the movie did turn out badly – is that the movie lived up to its title. This deeply hurt Srinath, as the ambitious movie was a result of over a year and half of hard work.

But this is not just a film maker defending his movie blindly, no. That’s the interesting part of it – apparently, Srinath went to the theatre and saw the audience reactions for himself to get a more objective picture of the situation. He says most of the people liked the film and gave him positive comments and feedback.

So, if that’s true, it does seem a bit suspect that just the social media seems to be a platform for the haters of the flick, yeah? Wonder why that is..

The tragic thing of course is that, organized or not, the social media campaign against the movie has negatively affected the publicity of the movie and has put the producer, Shahul Hameed Marikkar, in quite a tough spot with the prospects of the movie diminishing.

Srinath Rajendran also quoted examples in the interview, in which he pointed the heavy criticism the Aashiq Abu Mammootty starrer Gangster received online whereas he himself felt the movie wasn’t “that bad”. The social media attacks on actors and their character, especially those on superstar Prithviraj a few years back also shows the darker and ‘manipulated’ side of the social media, according to Srinath.

Koothara Release Date

The movie Koothara, the main attraction of which is the extended cameo by Mohanlal in a unique role, was supposed to be released on June 12 but now reports say the date has been postponed to June 13. Apparently, the team behind the movie have confirmed this though the reasons for the delay remain unknown.

koothara release date

The movie was originally supposed to come out on May 31, but maybe the humongous success of “Bangalore Days” at the box office, perhaps, was the reason they decided to hold off on releasing Koothara a little while longer.

Mohanlal is by and far the main attraction of the film, and it has been marketed as such, even in its
trailer – which by the way has been getting a very warm response. The fans are definitely excited about this one.

Lalettan is appearing as a fisherman, and a rather rough and weathered one at that. He speaks in a
Malabari slang and there were rumours initially that his role is a villainous one and if so, this is one
for the books, because the Universal Star hasn’t played a baddie in quite a while.

The main cast of the movie, however, are youngsters and the story revolves around three college mates and their love interests who end up on an ‘adventure’ they never bargained for. The male
leads of the flick are Sunny Wayne, Bharath and Tovino Thomas while their fellow female leads are
Janani Iyer, Bhavana, Gauthami Nair and Sritha Sivadas.

The comedic and a somewhat misleading title of the movie – Koothara – is a combination of the first letters in the names of the three youths in the movie – Kubrin, Tharun and Ram.

The trailer of the film features a voice over narration of sorts by Dulquer Salman. The story was penned by Vini Vishwa Lal and it was directed by Srinath Rajendran. The producer is Shahul Hameed Marikkar who is working under the banner of his company Marikkar productions.

Koothara movie behind the scenes video!

The upcoming flick Koothara, directed by Srinath Rajendran, is already a much talked about film largely due to the extended cameo by Mohanlal in a reportedly villainous role – the first baddie he has played in decades! And now we get a peek behind the curtain, courtesy of the crew themselves!

Koothara-Behind-The-Scenes

Now, apart from the beautifully designed poster which gained international recognition, the universal star’s look in the movie was the first thing that caught everyone’s eye; departing from the dashing look that leading men are always known to carry, this one has Lalettan sporting a ruffian image with a long unruly beard and matted, thick hair.

The film itself mainly stars Bharath, Sunny Wayne and Tovino Thomas in the lead as it tells the story of three college mates who, bored with life, go on a vacation of some sort that leads to events which turn their lives upside down.

The project was mostly shot in the Lakshadweep, though some parts were also shot near the Andaman and Nicobar islands. It was here on the high seas, while shooing the climax scenes of the film, that Sunny and Tovino were both injured, though they have now recovered.

The youngsters said they were thrilled to have gotten the chance to work with Mohanlal and did not mind their injuries which were ‘all part of the job’. Quite professional, guys… good form!

The motion picture has been written by Vini Vishwa Lal and is being produced by Marikkar Productions.

Mohanlal to Play a Baddie again?

mohanlal
Mohanlal, lovingly referred to as Lalettan by his fans, began his career in the late seventies when he played an iconic villain role in the movie Manjil Virinja Pookkal. Now it seems, the universal star, sometimes called the complete actor and one of the most natural actors in India by his peers, is set to play a bad guy again.

The film in question is Sreenath Rajendran’s Koothara. Though nothing much is known about the movie yet, it already has caught the attention of the critics when its poster was shortlisted internationally, in the best movie poster category. The shoot is set to take place with Lakshadweep as the primary location according to sources. The movie also has another interesting aspect wherein a dog will play companion to Lal’s cameo character, maybe reminding the audience of Maybe Mammootty’s classic movie Mrugaya? (1989)

Other actors in the movie include Tovino Thomas, Sunny Wayne, Janani Iyer, Bharath and Gauthami Nair. The tunes of the flick will be handled by Gopi Sunder and it is being made under the banner of Marikkar Productions Reloaded which previously handled the big budget Amal Neerad projects like Big B (2007) and Sagar Alias Jacky Reloaded (2009).
