A person named Rajasekharan who hails from Chennai has filed a case in Chennai sessions court on Kaala and team. He claims that the story of Kaala was his own script and he narrated the script to Rajinikanth in 1995. But producer Dhanush and Pa Ranjith copied the story and making a movie out of it. To his petition, the Court has asked Rajini Kanth to file a counter. Recently this case came to the bench, and after some hearings from both sides, the court declared that the final verdict would be given to 26th of this month.

Meanwhile, the team of Kaala is shooting some key scenes in Mumbai. Produced by Dhanush, this movie is directed by Ranjith. Music will be scored by Santosh Sivan.

Trikoti’s New Triangular Love Story

‘Dikkulu Choodaku Ramayya’ fame Trikoti has finally launched his second film.

Prior to the release of DCR, there were huge expectations on the film as it was backed by ace director SS Rajamouli and senior music director MM Keeravani. However, the result of the movie dented the chances of Trikoti in Tollywood.

He was boasting prior to the release of that film that he will do his next film with Nagarjuna Akkineni. But, now he had to settle with just newcomers. Trikoti’s second film, a triangular love story, was launched the other day at Ramanaidu studios.

Rajamouli, Keeravni, politician Botsa Sathyanarayana were present at the event. Ranjith is being introduced as hero with the film starring Palak Lalvani (Abbayitho Ammayi fame) as heroine.

‘What happens when hero and villain falls in love with same girl’ is said to be the crux of the story.

Ranjith and Prithviraj team up again!

Prithviraj is an actor known these days for being very selective in picking the projects he works on, and sure enough he has gained quite a fan following after a variety of movies that show his gravitas and range as an artist. Director Ranjith too is a name trusted by the mass audiences and the critical ones for his pick of subject matter and entertaining albeit visionary takes on them. What happens if we put these two together? Well, movie magic of course!

Ranjith-Prithviraj-Team-Up-again

There are actual precedents of these two artists bringing us something special – Nandanam, and more recently – Indian Rupee. Both movies were commercial and critical successes, and so it is exciting for the fans to hear that they are teaming up once more – this time tackling a historic project!

Yes, it was during the centennial birthday celebrations of K Madhavan, the freedom fighter, that Ranjith revealed the news that his next project will be a bio pic based on Madhavan. K Madhavan is the only man alive who is known to have participated in the Salt Sathyagraha led by Mahathma Gandhi and also the Guruvayoor Sathyagraha, which led to all Hindu castes being allowed into the temples in Kerala.

Ranjith, whilst making his speech in tribute to this legendary man, said he was deeply affected by Madhavan’s autobiography Oru Gandhiyan Communistinte Ormmakal. He then informed everyone present that he had proceeded to give the book to Prithviraj, who upon finishing it, expressed his interest in playing the role.

The veteran filmmaker also said that the movie will be a joint production venture between himself, Prof. Kunjiraman and Madhavan’s own son Ajay Kumar. Further details will be revealed by the end of the week, informed Ranjith to an already intrigued media and fan presence.

So there you have it folks – history meets tinsel town once again in Mollywood.

Priya Raman and Ranjith divorced!

Actors Priya Raman and Ranjith, who have been married for almost a decade and a half, have been granted a divorce by the family court after they filed for it with mutual consent. The couple got married in 1999.

Priya-Raman-Ranjith-Divorced

Apparently, they fell in love with each other on the sets of the movie Neram Pudhusu, and they got married soon after with the permissions of their respective families. The couple have two sons, who will now live with their mother.

Ranjith, who is okay with this arrangement, says he will be visiting his children as often as possible. It is unclear what happened and where things went wrong in this picture perfect love story, but according to sources the couple have been unhappy for some time due to certain differences and disagreements, and divorce was the only option left on the table when they became irreconcilable.

One dares say that this sure sounded like the less problematic and more mature way to handle it, though one hopes the children recover from their emotional losses soon and readjust to their new lives. It is never too easy on the children but sometimes it’s the only way to keep moving on, yes?

Priya, was of course, thriving as an actress in multiple languages before her wedding to Ranjith, though later she retired from acting altogether to focus on her family. Her roles in Malayalam movies like Aaram Thamburan, Kashmeeram and many others are still remembered, as she acted with almost all of the leading men in the industry. It is not known as of now, if Priya will be making a return to acting, now that the divorce has been finalised.

Mollywood is still reeling with the return of Manju Warrier after tremendously successful return to the industry, and maybe it is the right time for Priya to give it a shot as well…

Ranjith too carved quite a niche for him in Malayalam, though in villainous roles. The characters he essayed in hit films like Rajamanikyam, Naaturajavu and Chandrolsavam among others are some worth mentioning.

Anyway, the dissolution of a matrimonial bond is never glad tidings, but we wish both the now single actors (or ex actors) all the best with their lives moving forward.

Ranjith’s Njaan completes shooting!

Ranjith’s upcoming movie Njaan which stars Dulquer Salman, in perhaps the most different role in his short career so far, has finished filming. The story is based on TP Rajeevan’s novel K P N Kottoor: Ezhuthum Jeevithavum, and is a period film set against the backdrop of India’s freedom struggle.

Ranjith-Dalquer

This would be a total image makeover for Dulquer, literally and figuratively, as he plays Kottoor in two different getups in the movie. Currently, the young star’s resume is filled with movies that have him playing the romantic hero or bringing to life the charming ‘boy next door’ persona, over and over again. To be fair though, this has given the actor his share of success and a loyal following among the fans.

Like his father, the megastar Mammootty who has made a career out of re inventing himself with diverse characters, Dulquer too seems to be departing from the pigeon holing of the youthful brand with this venture.

With him, Fahad and Prithviraj taking the reins, the new generation of big names in the industry seems eager to expand their horizons as artists and provide fans with rich entertainment along the way.

Anumol, Jyothi Krishna and newcomer Shruthy, will take on the lead female roles in Njaan as women who affect Kottor’s life in different ways at different times. The film was shot mostly in Kozhikode and Kanhanghad. According to reports, it would be roughly two months before the movie is released.

Ranjith had worked with Mammootty in the movie Paleri Manikyam: Oru Pathira Kolapathakathinte Katha, which was also based on a TP Rajeevan novel of the same name. It was well received critically and also succeeded commercially.
