No Money For Tamannah’s Producers

Milky beauty Tamannah scored her first big hit this year with the film F2. The movie has become the Sankranti winner among all the films that have released. This hit was much needed for Tamannah as most of her last few films had failed to perform at least decently at the box office.

Pumped up with the success of F2, Tamannah is gearing up with her next film That is Mahalaxmi. The shoot of this film has been wrapped up but the promotions did not see the light yet. Queen was remade simultaneously in all four South Indian languages with different leads in each version. The makers are also planning to release all the versions on the same day across all the states.

Apparently, the rumours in the industry reveal that the producers went over-budget for the film and they are not willing to spend money on the promotions now causing a delay in the film’s release.

As reported earlier, this movie is an official remake of 2014 Hindi drama Queen.

Test Paper first ‘sponsored’ cinema in Malayalam!

The movie Test Paper, will be the first ‘sponsored’ feature film in Malayalam – and what does this mean? You don’t have to pay anything to see the movie! It’s free of charge.

The movie, which is to be released and screened in Thiruvananthapuram’s Kalabhavan theatre from June 13 to 19, is being sponsored by many leading firms in Kerala for specific marketing purposes, but this does not mean you will be forced to watch a glorified advertisement film for a couple of hours, no – the flick is supposed to be a family movie following all the traditions of a ‘normal’ film.

Munna and Mahalakshmi play the leads in the movie, while actors like Jagadeesh, Sreelatha Namboodiri, Nandu, Kailash and Shalu Kurien form the supporting cast.

The movie has been produced by Manoj Kumar under the banner of Balatara Visions while the story, screenplay, dialogues and direction have been handled by S Vinod Kumar.

Anil Gopalan has composed the music for the lyrics penned down by Murukan Kattakkada.

This is an experimental project to say the least, the success of which might lead to a whole new trend in Mollywood which is currently undergoing an economic crisis.
Depending on how much the marketing intend of the sponsors interfere in obvious ways with the crafting and execution of the movie, ‘sponsored’ cinema might be an alternative to the current box office profit oriented system functioning here and around the world.

Sure there are some obvious problems one might point out with movies designed specifically to serve the marketing needs of private concerns but hey, many new avenues in art have had somewhat spurious beginnings…
