Following its footsteps, Kollywood has also set up a similar committee. Nadigar Sangam, the body of the Tamil film industry, had started a panel to deal with the MeToo cases in the industry. It will be headed by senior actor Nasser and will also have other actors like Suhasini, Kushboo, Rohini, Karthi, Vishal and Murugan as the panel members.

MeToo movement has gained momentum in India during last year when many actresses and technicians came out and shared their sexual harassment stories. Many big names from the Tamil industry were also accused of sexual harassment, by a few female artists in the industry.

The digital service providers are charging 20 thousand rupees for the digital production which is actually high and also creating a huge loss for producers and theatre management. The producers have requested providers to decrease the fee, but they are not giving attention to this demand.

Bollywood heroines pushing Anjali back to Kollywood?

heroine anjali kollywood

Bollywood heroines who are currently invading Tollywood are now putting Anjali back on the list. As per the talk, Anjali who was busy for a while in Tollywood lost the track and is now looking towards Kollywood again.

It seems that the Bollywood beauties who are bagging several flicks in Tollywood are the reason for this act of Anjali. After Kajal, Samantha and Tamanna, a new set of heroines got launched into the Tollywood in the recent times. Anjali, managed to cross few of them with thriller flicks like “Geethanjali”.

But, she lacked in getting big offers from present generation heroes. This factor made Anjali look back at Kollywood film industry. As per the recent talk, Anjali is trying hard to bag Kollywood flicks. She may go back to that industry in the next few days.

Lakshmi Menon almost banned from acting!

Tinsel town is one busy place where newcomers have the hard task of getting themselves noticed as being unique or having that x factor. Sometimes it takes years of working in the industry and sometimes it’s just the matter of catching that big break that will land the spotlight on them. So it comes as no big wonder that passionate actors, especially female ones, tend to start very early in the industry in lead roles – maybe even in their mid-teens.

Lakshmi-Menon-Banned

If we start naming the contenders in this list it would go on and it is hardly a new trend.

In recent times in Kollywood though, Lakshmi Menon is a good example for having started down the celebrity lane at a very tender age and also achieving start status and mass popularity before graduating high school! For goodness sakes, the actress is landing one smash hit after another and is drawing a salary of nearly Rs 1 crore now.

But it looks like not all the people watching the scenario are happy with what they are witnessing. In fact, one such individual recently decided to take legal action against this.

Against what, you may be thinking right now. Success? Fame? Hardly…

No, Muthuselvi of Tamil Nadu Makkal Katchi, filed a petition in court asking that actresses under the age of 18 years should be allowed to act in movies, as it is detrimental to their welfare. In fact, Muthuselvi claims that working at such an early age in such projects would hurt them psychologically in the long run.

Logically, it does make sense doesn’t it? Meaning, we do have Child Labour Laws in place to prevent exploitation of kids… hmmm… something to think about.

However, in this case the Court dismissed the petition filed by Muthuselvi on the grounds that the law does not have the rights to interfere with the dreams and ambitions of young actresses, regardless of their age. They may only get involved in such matters if there is an explicit breaking of current law.

So, many actresses who are working hard to stay in the industry doing something they love, it seems, will live to fight another day.

Lakshmi Menon must be thanking her lucky stars right about now!

Kajal heads back to Kollywood!

Kajal Aggarwal has finally confirmed that she will be starring in the Dhanush starrer to be directed by Balaji Mohan. The film is supposed to go on floors this September, and the fair starlet says the script is an interesting one and her role has a lot of scope in terms of performance.

Kajal-Back-to-Kollywood

This would be the first time the Jilla girl romances the VIP star on screen. Dhanush is, of course, on a career high right now with the success of Velai Illa Pattathaari, and his upcoming Bollywood flick Shamitabh too being hugely anticipated.

Yes, there were a few legal/social issues and hassles with VIP regarding him smoking in the film and commenting in an insulting manner about a certain chain of schools, but on the whole, the positives far outweigh the negatives with this flick. After all, Dhanush was also the producer of the movie and it was a milestone in his career being his 25th one.

So Kajal’s decision to star opposite Dhanush comes at a very good time for her too, considering the actress does not have a lot of projects in her kitty right now. Her huge pay demands recently made news and one wonders if she is still holding on to that with the Balaji Mohan film as well.

Rs 1.5 crores is a hefty sum after all…

This would of course mean that the actress would most probably only grace the screens in big projects with massive funding behind them.

However, when asked if she would consider acting alongside junior stars like Vijay Sethupathi and Sivakarthikeyan, Kajal said the script was the primary deciding criteria for her and nothing else.

However, it would be… erm, interesting to see the younger heroes’ films employ the diva at that exorbitant a rate.

Well, who knows… stranger things have happened in show business, right?

Madhavan is back in Kollywood!

R Madhavan’s return to movies after a lengthy break had been very publicized and followed by his fans everywhere, and now that day is finally upon us.

Madhavan Back to Kollywood

The actor’s upcoming Tamil flick, Irudhi Chutru, launched a couple of days back on July 14th, when the Pooja of the movie was held. The entire cast and crew of the movie attended the function including Madhavan.

The shooting is set to launch on July 21st in Chennai, if things go as planned and Madhavan’s parts in the flick will be among the first to be shot. The director of this film is Sudha K Prasad of Drohi fame, and Sashikanth of YNot Studios will be the man producing it. Santhosh Narayanan will score the tunes for this one.

Now about the story..

Apparently, the plot of the movie revolves around women’s boxing. Madhavan plays a boxing coach and the purpose of the movie, or at least one of its main intents, is to raise awareness about the female division of this sport in our nation.

This is exemplified in the movie as many real life female boxers will be tackling some onscreen roles for it.

Madhavan has gone through an intense physical transformation to get in to character for this film. Gone is the boy next door charming quality he carried through in many of his movies and here comes the new persona of the rough and tough, no nonsense weathered sportsman.

He will be seen sporting a long haired, thick bearded look and a much more buffed up, muscular physique in the movie.

So it definitely feels like Irudhi Chutru is one to look forward to..

Tamanna back to Kollywood!

Well, Tamanna is coming out of some rough times, with her Bollywood venture Hamshakals turning out disastrously at the box office and the critics ignoring her presence and performance completely in the flick. This was quite a blow to the gorgeous actress who had her hopes pinned on the film to kick start her success in Bollywood.

Tamanna-back-to-kollywood

Anyway, the milky babe has since decided to concentrate more on her southern film career since, or so say the sources. Though there is still her Akshay Kumar movie It’s Entertainment coming out soon that may bring her some good fortune in the Mumbai film world after all.

It is at this juncture now that Tamannah has bagged the lead role in the next Arya movie to be directed by M Rajesh!

It was reported before that Arya, who has turned producer now, was planning to make a film under the banner of his company The Show People with Rajesh. Now, it turns out when the question of casting the lead actress came up and many names were considered, it was Arya himself who recommended Tamannnah!

The shooting for the movie is expected to start very soon. Arya and Rajesh have of course previously worked together in the hit flick Boss Engira Bhaskaran, which was Rajesh’s second film. Arya has since appeared in short roles in some of the director’s other films too.

Let’s hope this one recreates the Boss Engira Bhaskaran magic, and Tamannah too gets out of the slump she is in right now..

Shruti Hassan’s D-Day problem!

The Hindi action thriller D-Day (2013) didn’t make much of a mark at the box office but the critics gave the movie a thumbs up, on the whole, and the fans by and large had no complaints. But the movie’s surprising lack of a good financial haul maybe the reason why the makers of the flick wanted to release it in Tamil as a dubbed version.

Shruti-Hassan-D-Day-Problem

But one of the stars of the flick raised their voice against this and that’s our very own Shruti Hassan! Now that’s a shock to many, as Shruti, being Tamilian, should have been the one person thrilled with this development.. but no.

Apparently, she felt the movie’s originality would be compromised and that there was no reason to do dub it in Tamil anyway since the Hindi version was released in Tamil Nadu. Surely, she argued, the real movie buffs would have already seen the movie.

Now that’s a flimsy excuse or reasoning if any. Why dub any movie, if not to reach a larger audience and rake in a little more cash? Shruti’s arguments left many confused.

But there is another possible explanation though – Shruti had done a few steamy scenes in the film and perhaps she was not sure about how the Tamil audiences would react to those. But hey, this is pure conjecture at this point..

For better or for worse, the producers were quite decisive and determined about their plan and did go ahead with it.

D – Day was directed by Nikhil Advani and had a cast which consisted of Arjun Rampal, Huma Qureshi, Rishi Kapoor, Irrfan Khan and Sandeep Kulkarni. It was produced by DAR Motion Pictures in association with Emmay Entertainment.

Nayanthara to do a supernatural thriller

Nayanthara is still very well one of the reigning queens of the southern film industries and in that respect controversies don’t seem to touch her. She has landed some biggie roles recently and many of them have turned out to be hits, and her professionalism is a matter often praised by many in the fraternity.

Nayanatara-in-Thriller-film

She is now taking another step in the path of versatile choices by signing up for a supernatural thriller. The flick is to be directed by newcomer Ashwin and will feature the music of Sathya. Actor Aari, who was the lead in Nedunchaal, will tackle the part of the hero in this project.

Studio Green have undertaken the task of production.

Nayan’s other upcoming and much awaited film is Idhu Namma Aalu, in which she stars opposite her real life ex boyfriend Silambarasan. The couple haven’t shared screen space in 8 years.

The movie, directed by Pandiraj, also has other interesting aspects working for it like the fact that Simbu’s brother Kuralarasan has donned the role of the music composer and has also roped in Yuvan Sankar Raja to sing a song in it.

The flick, which is being produced by Simbu’s father and veteran actor T Rajendar, is currently being filmed and is near completion.

It is indeed a praiseworthy fact that Nayanthara is starring opposite Simbu after the couple’s much publicised relationship and subsequent bitter breakup a few years back. It was director Kalanjiyam, while in the midst of his own feud with actress Anjali that pointed out Nayan’s professional attitude and suggested Anjali take a cue or two from her!
