Shruti Hassan’s D-Day problem!

The Hindi action thriller D-Day (2013) didn’t make much of a mark at the box office but the critics gave the movie a thumbs up, on the whole, and the fans by and large had no complaints. But the movie’s surprising lack of a good financial haul maybe the reason why the makers of the flick wanted to release it in Tamil as a dubbed version.

But one of the stars of the flick raised their voice against this and that’s our very own Shruti Hassan! Now that’s a shock to many, as Shruti, being Tamilian, should have been the one person thrilled with this development.. but no.

Apparently, she felt the movie’s originality would be compromised and that there was no reason to do dub it in Tamil anyway since the Hindi version was released in Tamil Nadu. Surely, she argued, the real movie buffs would have already seen the movie.

Now that’s a flimsy excuse or reasoning if any. Why dub any movie, if not to reach a larger audience and rake in a little more cash? Shruti’s arguments left many confused.

But there is another possible explanation though – Shruti had done a few steamy scenes in the film and perhaps she was not sure about how the Tamil audiences would react to those. But hey, this is pure conjecture at this point..

For better or for worse, the producers were quite decisive and determined about their plan and did go ahead with it.

D – Day was directed by Nikhil Advani and had a cast which consisted of Arjun Rampal, Huma Qureshi, Rishi Kapoor, Irrfan Khan and Sandeep Kulkarni. It was produced by DAR Motion Pictures in association with Emmay Entertainment.
