Great Grand Masti Review – As bad as its predecessors

The third installment of the Masti series is here. Masti itself didn’t deserve a sequel, but I guess the 100cr club entry of the sequel seems like a motivation for the third one. Great Grand Masti follows its own Masti template this time too, where the trio end up in a soup with Aftab’s ‘ I have an idea’, preceded by a meeting where they rant about their lives because of wives.

A Still from Great Grand Masti
A Still from Great Grand Masti

Amar, Prem and Meet and played by Ritiesh Deeshmukh, Aftab Shivdasani and Vivek Oberoi are married for six years, but have been devoid of sex life. Amar is a ghar jamai and the dominating mother-in-law doesn’t allow the couple to have kids. She is waiting for a signal from a baba, as he had told her that her husband will be reborn as the kid. Prem has a saali living along with them who has become a kabab mein haddi. Meet’s wife has a twin brother and they have the Judwaa-movie problem where one repeats the action of the twin. The twin brother is a wrestler so Meet’s wife ends up thrashing him in the bedroom whenever the wrestler gets into a brawl. Frustrated with zero sex life, the three amigos plan to do masti with the village bellies in Amar’s property in Dhoodhvari, a small village. The trio’s grand masti plans goofs up when they realize they are stuck in a haunted purani haveli. They rest of the movie is about their struggles inside the bungalow and how they manage to escape.

Unlike, Grand Masti, Great Grand Masti has a slight edge over the story but still as a standalone it is poor. Also, GGM didn’t have the forwarded SMS and Whatsapp jokes , and tried to be to innovative sometimes. The success of the innovation was only so-so. First half had some interesting episodes like Judwaa and some scenes of Aftab. The second half was barely funny and the last 30 minutes is extremely boring. Out of all the three tracks, Ritiesh’s was the most boring. The khadoos mother-in-law concept was hardly appealing. No way did it match the Archana Puran Singhs in Masti. Aftab seemed to be totally into the role. Vivek was as usual, the artificial among the three. Ritiesh has a fantastic comic timing. It’s sad that he is given mediocre stuff most of the time. His talent sometimes covers up for the poor jokes. Urvashi Rautela contributed to the oomph factor as much as she can, but the acting meter never seemed to rise. The actors who played the wives were almost like a special appearance. Shreyas Talpade makes a cameo, and he is in a lifeless role.

Apart from the jokes and humour that hardly worked, insertion of unnecessary tracks added to the burden of watching it. A shorter duration of the film would have helped to some extent.

To sum up Great Grand Masti is as bad as its predecessors having its own share of flaws for the genre it intends to be.

A day before the release, Shiney Ahuja has filed a case against the film for naming a character after him. Based on a report, which said a maid in the film is called Shiney, the actor has filed the case, and the same character in the film has been played by Sonali Raut.

Reports also suggest that Vivek Oberoi, Aftab Shivdasani, and Riteish Deshmukh get funny with the maid Shiney (Sonali Raut) in one of the scenes from the film, which has apparently not gone well with Shiney Ahuja. So, Shiny has asked the makers of the film to delete the scene with a written apology.

Hot model turned actress Urvashi Rautela, who also represented India at the Miss Universe pageant, played the lead heroine in ‘Great Grand Masti’. Film’s director Indra Kumar revealed that he had to spend three months to catch and convince Urvashi to act in the sleazy film after she got scared of the adult content in it.

Indra Kumar added that none could impress him among the girls auditioned to play the heroine in ‘Great Grand Masti’ like Urvashi did. Hence, he decided to cast only her although he had to chase her for three months to convince her.

Salman Khan Ignores Vivek Oberoi on Great Grand Masti Sets

Bollywood Super Star Salman Khan yesterday met the cast and crew of Great Grand Masti. Riteish Deshmukh, Aftab Shivdasani, Urvashi Rautela and director Indra Kumar and other crew greeted Salman Khan on his arrival. Interestingly Vivek Oberoi who is also a part of the film maintained distance from Salman Khan and reminded that they are still foes.

When Salman visited the sets of Great Grand Masti, Riteish got a warm hug from Salman. Both Riteish and Aftab were seen laughing and spending some time with Salman Khan. However, Vivek who was also on the same location maintained distance by moving into his caravan once Salman Khan arrived.

In the past, these two heroes had a furious rivalry. The fight between these two began when rumours aired that Vivek Oberoi was dating Aishwarya Rai, who was an ex-girlfriend of Salman Khan.

This rivalry continued and is continuing since then. Once Vivek in an award function openly apologised Salman Khan for becoming a part of such filthy rumours and hoped that everything settles. Though, much didn’t happen then as Salman chose to ignore Vivek.

Now, seems like, the same is happening with Salman Khan. Vivek by ignoring Salman’s presence made sure that he still remembers the past.

It’s time that makes friends and break friends. We all know how Salman and Shah Rukh Khan fought and became friends. Let’s hope that Salman and Vivek will reunite together one day.
