A Few Actress Quit AMMA After Dileep Returns to Film Body

Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) is an association which looks after the welfare of the movie artists in Mollywood. A general body meeting was held recently, which has drawn so much negativity around. The meeting was attended by Malayalam’s biggies Mohanlal, Jayaram, Mammootty etc.

A lot of things were discussed in the general body meeting, while actor Mohanlal takes a charge as the president of AMMA. Actor Dileep who is accused in an assault case has taken up his charges as an important member of AMMA. To protest against this, the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) have resigned to their positions in AMMA. Rima Kallingal, Remya Nambeesan, Geethu Mohandas have put their resignation to protest Dileep’s return in AMMA. We have to wait and see how Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) responds to this.

Geethu Mohandas’s next in Malayalam

Geethu Mohandas is very busy with her responsibilities as a mother; she did put up a ‘Do not disturb’ sign as a status update recently. But the very talented film maker has found time for her passion that is cinema and is in the finishing stages of completing the script for her next film – and this one will be in Malayalam!

Yes, Geethu’s directorial venture last year in Hindi, Liar’s Dice, has become one of the most critically acclaimed Indian films in recent times with two National Award wins and multiple Bets film wins in International Film Festivals around the world.

Apparently, the film was showcased in over 50 of them!

Now, the actress turned director has her eyes set on Mollywood and it will be interesting to see what she has come up with. Of course, given that the Malayalam cinema industry is known for its out of the box thinking, she will be competing with some giants in the field in terms of novelty.

The film in question will be shot mostly in Fort Kochi and Lakshadweep, and it will commence next March, according to Geethu. It is not known yet who the cast are and what the plot entails. It would most likely be produced by Geethu’s own production company, given the success of her previous film.

The details about the movie and a formal announcement of sorts will be made at the upcoming Bienalle in Fort Kochi, says the ambitious film maker.

Geethu also has dismissed rumours that she will be working with Manju Warrier soon, although for the fans, that’s a disappointment to say the least.

Who wouldn’t want to see these two ladies working in one project?

Please do not disturb me – Geethu Mohandas

Geethu Mohandas, the acclaimed actor turned director, put up this as her social media status recently; yes, a sincere request to her fans not to bother her with trivial social media customs and gizmos and most of all random ‘friend requests’!

It seems the very talented Geethu is leading a very busy life these days and this ‘request’ is just an indication of the real ‘lack of time’ felt by many working mothers. Geethu does,as she explained, have to take care of a one and half year old baby, whilst also dive headfirst in to penning down the script for her next venture.

Hope the fans do appreciate her candidness, although it is this and her bold nature, personally and artistically that have gained her the recognition she deserves.

Her husband Rajeev Ravi too is busy with his directorial venture after winning the national award for cinematography for Geethu’s own film, Liar’s Dice, this year. A blessed and gifted family indeed!

Geethu herself debuted in films as a child artist in the mid 80s and then left only to return in the late nineties as a heroine. The beautiful actress who starred in quite a few notable films in Malayalam then must have realised her real passion lies elsewhere as she retired silently for a span of a few years.

Liar’s Dice which was , made on a modest budget went on to win another national award for Geethanjali Thapa who played the female lead in the flick, and also won several laurels including multiple Best Film awards at numerous international film festivals.

So, to be fair, when Geethu says she is busy – it must truly mean she is, and as her fans we should perhaps let her be, so she can come out in some time with what is sure to be another gem of a movie…

Geethu Mohandas Receives International Honor!

The talented actress turned director, Geethu Mohandas, recently grabbed the spotlight when her second directorial venture, the hindi film Liar’s Dice, won her two National awards – one for the lead actress Geethanjali Thapa and another for her husband and noted cinematographer Rajeev Ravi. Now, the gorgeous artist has added another ‘critical’ feather to her cap with her movie being named the Best Film at the New York Indian Film Festival. The event was organized by the Indo – American Arts Council.

An elated Geethu mentioned proudly that her creation had been selected for more than 50 international film festivals so far, including the Sofia International Film Festival in Bulgaria where she bagged the Best Film award again.

Interestingly, this acclaimed movie was initially funded by a grant she received as part of the recognition for her earlier film Kelkkundo (2008) which came up to only around Rs. 8.5 lacs, though later it was produced by Geethu’s own company Unplugged and Jar Films.

The story depicts the journey of a simple woman Kamala (Geethanjali) and her daughter Manya from their village in Himachal Pradesh, near the Indo Tibetan border, to Delhi via Shimla on a search to find her missing husband who migrated to Delhi for work. On the way, she finds a companion who helps her, in the form of an army deserter played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

The movie shows the real and raw world and troubles of migrant workers and their relatively harsh lives that stay in anonymity from the rest of the world.
