Shankar’s ‘I’ that released in the starting month of the year, was made on a huge scale of Rs 102 Cr. This film starred Vikram and Amy Jackson in the lead roles. A.R.Rahman scored music for this romantic thriller film. Aascar Film and Global United Media jointly produced this film. ‘I’ was released in 3350 theatres globally and collected an over all of 245Cr (Overseas: 57Cr, India: 188Cr).
Vedalam
Thala Ajith’s recent release Vedalam has been the second highest grosser in Kollywood. This action thriller directed by Siva was produced by A.M.Rathnam. Shruti Haasan and Lakshmi Menon played key roles in this film. After being made on a budget of 64Cr, Vedlam quite easily managed to collect 121Cr (Overseas: 32Cr, India: 89Cr)
Kanchana 2
Raghava Lawrence’s third deploy of ‘Muni’ series is ‘Kanchana 2.’ Lawrence and Tapsi were the lead pair in this Horror thriller. Telugu producer Bellamkonda Suresh produced this film with just incurring 20Cr. Kanchana 2 collected a total of 118Cr (Overseas: 15.5 Cr, India: 102.5 Cr)
Yennai Arindhaal
Another Ajith film is listed in the top 10 highest collections of Tamil Film. ‘Yennai Arindhaal’ is drama thriller directed by Gautham Menon. Anushka Shetty and Trisha played leads in the film. This was also produced by A.M.Rathanam who produced ‘Vedalam.’ 50cr were spent in the making of this film. 100.9cr is what this film fetched (Overseas: 28 Cr, India: 68 Cr)
Puli
This fantasy adventure film starring Ilayathalapathy Vijay in the title role stands at the fifth position. Directed by Chimbu Deven and produced by Shibu Thameens, PT Selvakumar. ‘Puli’ also stars Sridevi, Sudeep, Shruti Haasan and Hansika crucial roles. Being a fantasy film, a hefty 90cr were spent in the process of the film making. After gaining a flop talk, Puli managed to gross 100Cr (Overseas: 24 Cr, India: 75Cr)
Thani Oruvan
This film was one the most successful film both revenue and content wise. Jayam Ravi, who hasn’t seen a hit since years, registered a blockbuster with this film. Directed by Ravi’s brother M. Raja, a minimal of 20cr was spent for this film. Rs 78Cr is what Thani Oruvan collected (Overseas: 9.5 Cr, India: 68.5 Cr). This film was produced by AGS Entertainment.
Papanasam
This thriller film is an official remake of Malayalam super hit film ‘Drishyam.’ Kamal Haasan and Gautami played the lead roles in this film. Papanasam is directed by Jeethu Joseph and produced by Suresh Balaje, George Pius, Rajkumar Sethupathi, Sripriya. Rs 45cr was spent on making this film and collected 56Cr is what it collected (Overseas: 11.5 Cr, India: 44.5 Cr)
Naanum Rowdydhaan
The Vijay Sethupathi-Nayantara starrer that released recently witnessed huge collection in flow. Directed by Vignesh Shiva and jointly produced by Gautham Menon and Dhanush. The makers invested 9cr for this film and bagged up Rs 56Cr in the form of collections (Overseas: 7 Cr, India: 40.5 Cr)
Anegan
This psychological romantic thriller film directed by K. V. Anand stars Dhanush and Amyra Dastur in the lead roles. Kalpathi S Aghoram, Kalpathi S Ganesh and Kalpathi S Suresh made this film on a budget of 38Cr. 66cr is what ‘Anegan’ has collected (Overseas: 13 Cr, India: 53 Cr)
Masss
Suriya’s supernatural thriller ‘Masss’ is in the tenth position of this year highest grosser. Directed by Venkat Prabhu, Masss has Nayantara and Premgi Amaren in crucial roles. Produced by K. E. Gnanavel Raja under Studio Green banner, 65cr was spent on the film making. A total of 81cr was what Masss has collected (Overseas: 24.75 Cr, India: 56.25 Cr)
