The Bombay High Court has cleared Bollywood film Udta Punjab for release with one cut. This is a very good news and positive sign from the court. A lawyer of the film’s producer Phantom Films, which had moved court against a series of cuts imposed on the film by the censor board but finally the Bombay high court after hearing the versions of both the sides took the stand of the film and said that there is nothing wrong shown in the film.

Filmmakers don’t support drugs’ and ‘characters show facets of menace’ are the primary observations of the censor board. Also, the court clarified that there is no reason to delete word Punjab from sign board, and even nothing to suggest sovereignty is questioned. Drugs availability highlighted and the downfall of a rockstar depicted. Also, the cops struggling with drug menace is shown in the film. CBFC not empowered by law to censor films as the word censor is not included in the cinematography act is what cleared by the high court of Bombay.

‘Udta Punjab,’ an upcoming Bollywood film starring Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Kareena Kapoor Khan, is one of the much-discussed films of this year.

Thanks to the Censor Board, ‘Udta Punjab’ has got huge publicity. Since the film deals with drug trafficking and its abuse in Punjab, the Censor Board refused to allot certificate if the advised 40 cuts were not implemented. On the other hand, makers of Udta Punjab claimed that no one can make an authentic film about ‘drugs’ and its effects on people without using bold scenes and cuss words.

Both the censor board and the filmmakers were reluctant, so the film which was supposed to be released in April is tentatively slated for release on June 17.

Ram Gopal Varma tweeted that the film should have been named ‘Udta India’ or ‘Udta World’ owing to the subject of ‘Drugs’.

News has been making rounds in film circles that Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Kareena Kapoor Khan starrer upcoming Bollywood film ‘Udta Punjab’ has been banned by the Censor Board.

The film directed by Abhishek Chaubey deals with the drug mafia in Punjab. The trailer has already created huge interest and controversy with the characters speaking many cuss words. Film’s co-producer Anurag Kashyap and Balaji Motion Pictures have jointly said that ‘Udta Punjab’ has not been banned.

The statement added that there has been a difference of opinion between the CBFC and the filmmakers regarding the censor certificate with Board demanding for the removal of cuss words and makers acting against it. The Revision Committee are currently reviewing Udta Punjab, and the issue will be soon settled.

The release date will be announced as soon as the censor is done.
