The Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry denied the request of Jamia Milia Islamia University, to award an honorary doctorate to actor Shahrukh Khan, who was its alumnus. The ministry denied the proposal as Shahrukh was already conferred with a doctorate by Maulana Azad National Urdu University in 2016.

Though there is no such bar to not receive two doctorates, the ministry felt that it is not a good practice. It stated that as a matter of policy, such practices are discouraged. The HRD ministry rejected three months after the request made by Jamila Milia Islamia University.

Shahrukh studied his masters in Mass Communications from Jamia’s AJK Mass Communications Research Centre. He couldn’t appear for the final exams though, due to the shortage in attendance.

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has been conferred with an honorary doctorate at the sixth convocation of Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANU) in Hyderabad on Monday.

President Pranab Mukherjee presented the doctorate to SRK for his extraordinary contribution to Urdu language and culture. Telangana Governor ESL Narasimhan, Deputy Chief Minister of Telangana Mohammad Mahmood Ali, MANU Vice-Chancellor Zafar Younus Sareshwala and many other dignitaries graced the event.

After receiving the honor, SRK expressed his gratitude and recollected his connection with the city. ‘Hyderabad is the birth place of my mother and I have a spiritual connection with this city. My parents would have been proud if they were alive to see this day,’ he added.

SRK Receives Doctorate from MANU

Aamir Khan was also conferred with the doctorate by MANU in 2013.

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has received an honorary doctorate from the University of Edinburgh for his contribution to films and his philanthropic work.

He overall has two doctorates after receiving this. In 2009, he received a doctorate from University of Bedfordshire. As a Bollywood actor his contribution towards the society with a kind heart, unconditional service towards nature, he was awarded the Doctorate.

His services like providing solar energy to rural area’s, charity works, building a separate ward of children were considered while providing him the Doctorate.

Shah Rukh Khan said that “It is extremely grateful and humbled to receive this.”
