The Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry denied the request of Jamia Milia Islamia University, to award an honorary doctorate to actor Shahrukh Khan, who was its alumnus. The ministry denied the proposal as Shahrukh was already conferred with a doctorate by Maulana Azad National Urdu University in 2016.
Though there is no such bar to not receive two doctorates, the ministry felt that it is not a good practice. It stated that as a matter of policy, such practices are discouraged. The HRD ministry rejected three months after the request made by Jamila Milia Islamia University.
Shahrukh studied his masters in Mass Communications from Jamia’s AJK Mass Communications Research Centre. He couldn’t appear for the final exams though, due to the shortage in attendance.
