Oscar-winning music director AR Rahman will be reuniting with star hero Kamal Haasan after a long gap of 19 years. Rahman will be composing music for Kamal’s upcoming political thriller, Thalaivan Irukindraan. The last Kamal’s film to which Rahman composed the music was Thenali.

Rahman himself announced the news but he didn’t reveal the movie’s name. He tweeted, “Happy and excited to collaborate with the one and only @ikamalhaasan himself on a magnum opus… Watch this space for more @RKFI @lycaproductions #RKFI #lycaproductions.”

Kamal ended up the suspense by revealing the movie name as well. He tweeted back to Rahman saying, “Thanks ARR for strengthening the team with your participation. Very few projects feel good & right even as we develop it. Thalaivan Irukkindraan is one such. Your level of excitement for the project is very contagious. Let me pass it on to the rest of our crew @RKFI @LycaProductions”

Popular production house Lyca Productions will be bankrolling this movie. Rest of the details regarding the director and the lead cast will be announced soon. The regular shoot may commence from October.

Star director Shankar Shanmugan recently wrapped up an exciting project titled 2.O. The director is currently busy shooting for an exciting project Bharateeyudu 2, which is the sequel for the super hit film Bharateeyudu. The movie is releasing in Tamil as Indian 2.

Shankar has surprised one and all with the selection of the music director. Shankar usually works with Harris Jayraj and AR Rahman but surprisingly, he has ignored both of them for this movie.

Shankar has picked Anirudh Ravichander now over AR Rahman and it is creating a discussion all over the film circles. Shankar wants a young composer on board who is currently on a roll. Anirudh is having a streak of hits and Shankar felt that Anirudh might be the right choice for his project.

Lyca Productions is the production house that bankrolled the project.

This is certainly a great news for all the Indians and music lovers. A R Rahman fans are already kicked about this news and they are hoping for another Oscar this time. In the past, AR Rahman won Oscar for the film Slumdog Millionaire in 2009 for Best Original Score and Best Original Song. Rahman is confident this time too that he wins Oscar again.

“Ginga”, which AR Rahman composed to celebrate Pele’s soccer legacy, is part of the 91 songs competing for nominations in the Original Song category. AR Rahman is going to compete with other music directors who scored for the films like Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, La La Land, Moana and “Florence Foster Jenkins.

Oscar Award Ceremony is going to be held on February 26, 2017.
