When NTR Jr’s latest film ‘Janatha Garage’ was released and received below average reviews on the very first day, no one would have believed that the movie would still go on to become the 3rd All Time blockbuster in the history of Telugu cinema.

With over Rs 75 Cr worldwide share, ‘Janatha Garage’ has now overtaken Pawan Kalyan’s ‘Attharintiki Daredi’ to emerge the 3rd biggest hit. Baahubali and Srimanthudu are the only films ahead of JG. For now, JG has amassed over Rs 125 Cr gross at the worldwide box office in just 15 days. It is the second fastest Telugu film to do so. Distributors of all the areas except Nellore have already landed in the profit zone.

With new releases like ‘Siddartha’ and ‘Nirmala Convent’ getting washed out, JG is still continuing its dream at the box office. With another good week and inordinate luck, JG can even surpass Srimanthudu to become the 2nd in the list.

In a recent live show, Koratala Siva opened up about his views on Tollywood critics who rated the film quite low, apart from ripping off the movie’s story.

In the interaction with the audience, Siva said that he has full respect for critics and that he also has a request for them. Koratala requested the critics to conduct a survey at the theaters after watching FDFS to know about audience’s response before rating the film and spreading negative talk, which will affect the movie that was made with crores of rupees and months of hard work of hundreds of people.

Koratala Siva’s request is rather unusual and far from reasonable as it is not the job of a critic to know public’s pulse before writing a review. Also, a critic’s negative review may not impact a film’s box-office prospects, and the best examples are Janatha Garage and Sarrainodu, both released to underwhelming reviews, but ruled the box-office.

Janatha Garage 1st Week Worldwide Share: Rs 64.4 crore

The film set All Time 1st Week Record in Vizag and Non-Baahubali 1st Week Records in all other areas. It has become the 2nd fastest to reach Rs 50 crore Share mark as well as 2nd Fastest to reach Rs 100 crore Gross mark, only after Baahubali.

Trade pundits predict that ‘Janatha Garage’ has the potential to cross Rs 75 crore share in its full run to get its name inked among top 5 All Time films.

It seems that the poor reviews have not hampered the box office prospects of NTR’s latest release ‘Janatha Garage’.

By raking in Rs 21 cr share in the two Telugu states on its opening day, JG became the second biggest opener after Baahubali. It created another record by becoming the 2nd fastest film to reach the Rs 50 Cr worldwide share mark. While Baahubali took just two days, JG took four days for this feat. Decent collections were reported on Monday as well.

Janatha Garage also collected $1.5 million in the US. This is the 4th overall and 3rd successive film of NTR to breach the million dollar mark in the US after Temper and Nannaku Prematho. NTR also became the only South hero to have two back to back films which scored $1.5 million in the US.

After skipping the film’s audio launch event, Samantha has yet again skipped the post-release promotional interviews of ‘Janatha Garage’.

On the eve of Vinayaka Chavithi festival, a special interview of Janatha Garage team was shown on TV. NTR, film’s director Koratala Siva, Nithya Menen who played second fiddle in the film, Rajeev Kanakala, film’s lyricist Ramajogayya Sastry were all present but the film’s leading lady Samantha was missing. It is learnt that Sam was miffed with the makers for downplaying her and giving more importance to Kajal.

Considering Kajal’s item song in the film garnering huge attention from moviegoers, makers have released several posters featuring her in her sexiest best avatar whereas Sam was seen in just one poster, a still from the Apple beauty song. Sam was heard to be hurt feeling that being the film’s leading lady she should have got more priority than Kajal who was just seen in an item song.

The film Janatha Garage is performing great thing at the box office now. The film unit is happy with the way the film was made and the appreciations from everyone matters the most.
