There are many directors in Telugu film industry who has their own style and mark which can be seen only in their movies. For example, Sukumar has a style of showcasing his heroes in the stylish way possible and making movies with complicated stories. Sekhar Kammula who is popular for making movies with light hearted emotions and fantastic values is also another style. He is now coming up with his latest film after Nayanathara’s starrer Avanthika. The name of the film is Fidaa which has Varun Tej Konidela and Sai Pallavi as leads, which is produced by Dil Raju under his SVC banner. This movie is touted to be the comeback of Sekhar Kammula and let’s see if it’s a comeback or not.
Varun (Varun Tej) lives with his elder brother and a little brother in America who is also a medico. He comes to India as his brother is marrying Renuka, sister of Bhanumathi (Sai Pallavi) who lives in a village in Telangana. During these days of marriage both Varun and Bhanumathi become close and she falls for him. Suddenly girlfriend of Varun comes to marriage and a conflict starts in the heart of Bhanumathi and she comes to know that Varun is planning to take her girlfriend to America and marry her. At the same time, Bhanumathi promises her dad that she would never leave him even after her marriage. What happens to the love of Bhanumathi? What happens to the promise she made to her father? This questions form the rest of the story.
Cast and performance
Varun Tej is superb as NRI and he is good at his body language. He looks handsome and he is a perfect fit into the role. Sai Pallavi is excellent as Bhanumathi and the energy she pumped and carried throughout the movie is fantastic. The way she acted in some sequences is a treat to watch. Harshvardhan Rane is good in his limited role. Satyam Rajesh who comes in the second half is funny and generate laughs. All other actors have done well upto the extent of their characters.
Story of Fidaa is simple and screenplay is well written and it is gripping throughout with the moments of Sekhar Kammula’s mark. Dialogues are situational.
Songs composed by Shakthi Kanth Karthik are catchy with the fantastic lyrics written by the lyricists. Fidaa movie background music scored by Jeevan Babu is good. Cinematography by Vijay C Kumar is superb and the movie has some fantastic visuals of village locales. The film Editing by Marthand K Venkatesh is good.
Art department has done a superb job and production values are apt.
Sai Pallavi as Bhanumathi
Music by Shakthi Kanth Karthik
Fidaa is a movie which has its expectations because of Sekhar Kammula and Dil Raju. Movie begins with the introduction of Varun Tej and his life in America and then it shifts to a village in Telangana. This is where the real fun starts and the real Sekhar Kammula comes out. There are some scenes which seem vulgar if they are attempted by any other director but they seem nice and funny when seen in Fidaa directed by Sekhar Kammula. He has written a very strong character for heroine Sai Pallavi in the name of Bhanumathi and it is the best part of the movie. This character has even dominated Varun’s character in the movie and the funny moments written are well conceived. This half ends where Sai Pallavi promises her father and second half begins in a lighter vein and it shifts back to America where love hate story between Varun and Bhanu runs. To sum up, Fidaa is a pure Sekhar Kammula’s mark movie which we are missing since many years.
