There are a few actors who are very much successful in both Telugu and Tamil actors. They created their market in both the languages through their appealing script selection and the care they take in making them. Rajinikanth, Kamal Hassan, Suriya, Vikram and Karthi are some of the actors who come under this category. Karthi, who debuted in Telugu with Yuganiki Okkadu tasted a blockbuster with this movie itself. His many movies are successful in Telugu and he is owned by Telugu people as one among them. He is now coming now with the movie titled “Chinababu” directed by Pandiraj and produced by none other than Suriya himself for his brother which co-stars Sayesha Saigal. This movie is made with a lot of rural elements elevating the farmer. Lets see how it works on us as it is released into theatres today.
Penugonda Rudra Raju (Satya Raj) belongs to a Zamindar family and his family is well respected in their area. He is blessed only with girls and then disappointed Raju decides to marry another woman to give birth to a son and he marries her wife’s sister and to his bad luck, she too gives birth to a girl child. When he is about to marry third woman, his first wife gets pregnancy and he decide to wait until the delivery and this time to his luck she gives birth to a male child and he is named as Krishnam Raju (Karthi) who is called as Chinababu by his family members dearly. He becomes a farmer discontinuing his education and he is very proud with his profession and some disturbances arise in their family due to Chinababu’s decisions. What are those decisions and how he bought peace in his family is rest of the story.
Cast and performance
Karthi is a fantastic performer when he get a superb role and he proves it again with the role of Krishnam Raju. His body language, attitude and diction are all in well sync with that of real life farmers. Sayesha Saigal is superb in her role as as a simplistic entrepreneur. Suri evokes a few laughs when he is given chance. Satya Raj and the family members has done fine job in their roles. Shatru is well fit in the role of aspiring politician and as rival of Krishnam Raju. There are a lot of Tamil actors who are new to Telugu audience but they all did good job in their roles.
Story of Chinababu is simple and good. Screenplay is written well but with a lot of Tamil flavour. Dialogues are good and some are powerful.
Songs composed by D Imman are nice when heard like a tune but some songs are spoiled with translated lyrics. He background score is superb which has a lot of music with rural flavour. Cinematography by Velraj is superb and village locales and fields are shot well. Editing by Ruben is good. Action sequences are composed well and production values of 2D Entertainment are rich.
Karthi as Chinababu
Lot of Tamil flavour
China Babu is a film that revolves around a family and its extended relatives and their unity. Director Pandiraj who is well praised by critics for his previous movie has made a movie with a lot of full emotions and rural backdrop as its heart. He etched out a full family package with ample dose of sentimental scenes and action sequences but is not fully convincing for Telugu audience as it has lot of Tamil flavour and a lot of Tamil actors who are new to Telugu audience makes it difficult to remember or connect with characters. Female audience and farmers will connect a lot to this movie. To sum up, Chinababu is reasonably a good movie from Karthi.
