Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was the first actress from the Bollywood industry to ever have walked the red carpet and to have made her continuous presence felt for 14 years now, at the auspicious Cannes Film Festival. She has been representing the cosmetics brand, L’Oreal on the French Riviera and is well received every single year. Of lately, young Bollywood actresses such as Sonam Kapoor and Katrina Kaif have joined Aishwarya Rai Bachchan on the red carpet and each of them dazzled and sometimes not so much in their massive yet exquisite gowns.
Sonam Kapoor’s presence on the red carpet marks her fifth year at the Cannes festival while Katrina Kaif has made her debut at Cannes Festival this year only. In exception to these desired actresses of Bollywood, Mallika Sharavat, Freida Pinto and Vidya Balan have also made appearances in the past. But, more importantly, here are the pictures and details of the “who wore what” at #Cannesfilmfestival2015.

Katrina Kaif first walked the red carpet on Day 1 in a black and grey lace Oscar De La Renta dress and we are not too sure that she had grabbed all the attention that she could have. Her red hair did not help any further with the outfit, and all the hype created about her first appearance at the prestigious film festival was burnt out.
However, the “Dhoom 3” actress created a “dhoom” effect on the carpet by daring to put on an all-red ensemble ON a red carpet with red hair and red lipstick….wait, what? Yes, Katrina Kaif was screaming bloody murder but somehow managed to look ravishing in the Elie Saab number on Day 2. She donned a pair of 8-inch heels and kept her hair and make-up simple which radiated elegance and sophistication to the already composed diva.
The May of 16th and 18th had the fashion icon of India, Sonam Kapoor, walk the red carpet at the Cannes Festival and she definitely dressed to impress! On her Day 1, she sported a contrasting royal electric blue Ralph and Russo couture gown which she paired with blue Zanotti sandals and Chopard sapphire and diamond earrings.
After making heads turn in her bright blue ensemble, Sonam didn’t turn it down on Day 2 at the festival. Sonam Kapoor fashioned a sorbet-colored Elie Saab gown which didn’t dazzle on carpet. It was a heavily feathered and beaded gown which took away all the attention from Sonam, no matter how graciously she tried to carry it off.
Finally, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan barely made the cut to the #bestdressed list of Cannes 2015. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan sputtered around in a teal-colored Elie Saab gown that was sleeveless and sheer, from the knee. Although the actress couldn’t have gone overboard with an Elie Saab, she has had better appearances on the red carpet such as the Roberto Cavalli gown in Cannes 2014.
Who thrilled and who killed at Cannes 2015 does not have a singular answer. We feel the divas did not thrash the red carpet with their dresses nor did they leave everyone with their jaws dropped like they could have. Next year we will hopefully see the Bollywood divas bedazzle!
