Bollywood actress Vidya Balan appealed to the people to take part in large numbers in a global campaign to raise awareness towards the need to take action on climate change.
The Ishquia star asked the people to switch off lights for one hour on March 26 as part of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF)’s Earth Hour campaign. She has been named the brand ambassador in India for the annual event.
"I am delighted to be part of Earth Hour and support the cause of climate change. WWF’s Earth Hour has created awareness on this important issue. It is inspiring to see how just by switching off lights for an hour we can support this cause," Vidya told reporters.
Earth Hour is a WWF initiative where citizens around the globe can show their support for action on climate change by turning off lights for one hour.
"We got tremendous response last year as millions of people across India supported the cause. We hope this year we all would go one step ahead in our effort to tackle climate change," Sejal Worah, Programme Director, WWF India said.
Besides landmarks like India Gate, Qutub Minar, Gateway of India, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Defence establishments, universities, hotels, shopping malls, public and private offices across the nation will participate in the event.(PTI)
