India practically mourns the death of a great singer who gave classical singing a new image in Hindi films. Manna Dey, aged 94, breathed his last today in Bangalore after suffering a long run ailment with chest infection.
Before entering the celluloid world, Manna wanted to be a wrestler. But destiny clearly had other plans for this talented persona who sang countless songs in various languages. Manna Dey flaunts a great number of followers even till date. He was admired by the music directors who would state that Manna was capable of singing as effortlessly as Mukesh or Rafi or any other lead singer of those times.
His voice rendering ‘Ae mere pyaare watan’ composed by Salil Chaudhary shook the hearts of Nation’s citizens to reach out to the wounded warriors who brought Independence to the Country. This is just one such great example out of many examples that really cant be listed out in text.
Manna Dey was honored with Padma Shri in 1971 and Dada Saheb Phalke Award in 2007 for his great contribution to Indian Cinema.
