McAfee India has recently done an exhaustive survey as to who are the celebrites that criminals use to lure the fans and steal information via malware. The reports are as disheartening as one sees all the top stars there. While it is Prince Mahesh Babu and Pawan Kalyan who are on the top in Tollywood, Bollywood has its long list where the cyber crime is ramapnatly engaged to attack personal information of fans. Talking about the issue, Vice President of Engineering Consumer and Mobile, McAfee, Venkatasubramanyam Krishnapur had the following to share – “In India, where celebs are given the status of semi Gods, cyber criminals often use their names to lure people to sites that actually host malicious software designed to compromise personal details and disrupt devices” He said in a press note. “By Including the names of popular celebrities in a website’s search tags, cyber criminals are able to direct more visitors to malicious sites where they may unwittingly sign up for spam or harmful spyware ending up with malware ridden devices” he added.
