Telangana MLCs to move against Sri Krishna committee

Alleging that the Sri Krishna committee insulted the legislators in its report, the ruling Congress MLCs from Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh on Friday gave a privilege motion to the Legislative Council Chairman.

“The Sri Krishna committe in Chapter eight of its report suggested that legislators belonging to Telangana, who are now championing the cause of Telangana, should be counselled to mould their opinion in favour of integrated state.”

"The committee has also suggested that posts like Deputy CM should be given to Telangana leaders. Who (committee) are you trying to insult? You have gone beyond your brief," Congress MLC K. R. Amos told the media here.

He said he and other party MLCs have given the privilege motion to the Council Chairman A Chakrapani.

"We want debate on the matter first. We will raise the matter in the house tomorrow," Chakrapani added.

The eighth chapter of the Sri Krishna committee report, which deals with sensitive law and order issues, has not been made public by the Centre.

The Andhra Pradesh High Court has directed the Centre to make public the eighth chapter of the report.

Telangana supporters allege that the committee suggested various measures to supress the separate statehood agitation in the eighth chapter.(PTI)
