The Telangana issue rocked the Andhra Pradesh Assembly on Tuesday with TD MLAs disrupting the proceedings leading to its adjournment for the day.
The House was adjourned twice in the morning and later for the day after TD MLAs from Telangana region protested the "brutal" lathicharge on students and journalists at the Osmania University campus.
Holding placards and raising slogans against the police action, TD members rushed to the well of the House as soon as it assembled for the day’s proceedings.
Within a minute, Speaker Kiran Kumar Reddy adjourned the proceedings for 15 minutes but the House resumed only after an hour.
The Speaker then announced that the adjournment motion moved by the TD on the issue was being disallowed, saying Home Minister Sabita Reddy would make a statement on the incident later.
However, the slogan-shouting TD MLAs remained adamant and did not relent after Chief Minister K. Rosaiah assured them that the government would take appropriate action.
In the din, the Majlis Ittehadul-e-Muslimeen (MIM) members rose to their feet demanding a statement from the government on four per cent reservation for Muslims in the wake of the AP High Court’s recent judgement against it.
To this, the Speaker said the issue would be taken up as a short discussion.(PTI)
