HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam Party president and Leader of Opposition in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly, N Chandrababu Naidu, today said that his party would certainly table a no-confidence motion against the Kiran Kumar Reddy government.
"The government cannot escape," Naidu said at a press conference after a meeting of party legislators and leaders here.
The TDP, he said, would give another notice for the no-confidence in the Assembly when it reconvenes for the `second meeting’ of the seventh (budget) session tomorrow.
"It has not been specially mentioned in the official notification that the Assembly is being convened only for the election of the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker. As per the procedure, we can give a notice on the working day and move the no-confidence motion with the support of 30 MLAs. The Speaker has to admit it and take up the discussion within ten days," Naidu said.
The TDP chief took exception to some media reports which suggested that his party was not serious about the no-trust motion, and gave the notice when the House was not in session.
"There is no question of going back and the government cannot escape," he said.
Reacting to Union Home Minister P Chidambaram’s statement that a meeting would be called to discuss Srikrishna Committee recommendations on Telangana issue, the TDP president maintained that the Government of India had both the "authority" and the "responsibility" to take the decision. "We made it very clear that we will not attend the all-party meeting, to be convened by the Centre… We stick to our stand," Naidu said.
He also blamed a section of the media for spreading distorted information about the TDP’s stand on the issue.(PTI)
