HYDERABAD: Stating that the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Telangana were inseparable, Rajya Sabha MP and TDP politburo member Nandamuri Harikrishna today gave a new definition to the TDP calling it the Telangana Development Party.
In an open letter to people, Harikrishna said the word Trilinga indicated the origin of Telugu Desam and Telangana. The TDP was the only party which strived for the development of the Telangana region, he said.
Recalling that TDP founder NT Ramarao had started his Chaitanya Yatra from Nizamabad in June 1982, he said it was the Congress that had been hoodwinking the people on Telangana. If the Congress is sincere, it should have introduced a Bill in Parliament and the BJP should have supported it. "The Congress is abetting suicides of students for the sake of power," he alleged.
Harikrishna said he was writing the open letter as he was pained to note that the ‘Telugu building’ constructed by NTR was crumbling.
Highlighting the developmental activities in Telangana during the TDP rule, Harikrishna claimed that slavery in Telangana was rooted out by the TDP. He called upon the party activists to refute the allegation that the TDP was Telangana Drohula Party and explain to the people that it was, in fact, the Telangana Development Party.
The TDP leader alleged that the Congress had betrayed the people of the region. In an indirect attack, he also termed TRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao as a betrayer. "You all know who enjoyed power during the TDP rule and later betrayed it," Harikrishna said.
Some professors who praised NTR for implementing GO 610, were now trying to depict him as ‘Telangana drohi’, he alleged. None from professors’ families committed suicide, he said.
Harikrishna said the bypoll results were the victory of the TRS. "Sympathy and sacrifices of the MLAs have helped them win the elections," he opined.
Despite the Union home minister’s statement that the cases against the students involved in the agitation would be dropped, no Congress leaders did anything in this regard, he said.
He appealed to students not to commit suicide. He concluded his letter stating that the TDP would remain as long as the sun and moon exist.
