Bilinguals are not so common for our heroes. They are very rare and they take a lot of time in making. Mostly our stars dub their movies into other languages if a producer is willing to release or if they got a huge applause for the film. Superstar Mahesh Babu who is one of the biggest stars in our Telugu film industry is back with his latest release after the debacle of Brahmotsavam in the name of “Spyder” which is directed by top most pan India commercial director A R Murugadoss produced by NVR Cinemas and Reliance Entertainments. He is debuting into Tamil with this bilingual and let’s see how it works on us.

Story

Siva (Mahesh Babu) is an employee who works in illegal call tapping department for the safety of people in Intelligence Bureau. He enjoys his work so much and one day he hears a conversation between two girls and he sends and lady police who is his friend to guard the house of the girl. The next day city wakes up with the brutal murder of these two by a unknown guy who cuts all their body parts and mixes and makes it very difficult to figure out them. Siva who is deeply affected by this goes on hunt for the criminal and finds him as Bhairavudu (SJ Suryah). Rest of the story is how he nabs him.

Cast and Performance

Mahesh Babu is superb in his role as an employee of Intelligence Bureau and he emotes well in emotional sequences. His looks are additional attraction for the role he played. Rakul Preet Singh is good but her role is very limited and has nothing much to do. Priyadarshi, RJ Balaji, Krishna are nice in their roles as Siva friends. S J Suryah is terrific in his role as a psycho who enjoys the cry of others. He did complete justice to his role with his expressions and body language. Bharath is nice in his small role. All other actors did good job in their respective roles.

Writing Department

Story of Spyder is simple and good. Screenplay is mediocre and could have been much better. Dialogues are good.

Technical Departments

Songs composed by Harris Jayaraj are good. His background score is nice. Cinematography by Santosh Shivan is nice and he shot superb visuals for this movie. Editing could be better to make the pace a little racy to engage audience. Art department did nice job and Vfx shots are pretty average. Stunts and action sequences are composed well. Production values are rich.

Verdict

Spyder is a movie which runs on a conflict between a good guy who wants to save people from the problems created by other people to them and a bad guy who literally is a psycho who is fascinated by the cries of people and who enjoys the sound and emotion of crying. They both go to any extent to achieve their objectives. A R Murugadoss who proved himself with his previous movies seemed to be in a bad form in making this movie. He could have written a much engaging and convincing screenplay to continue his success streak. He has an interesting premise for Spyder and he lost it in screenplay. He has written some interesting sequences like Bhairavudu’s introduction and Siva motivating women to nab Bhairavudu. Mahesh babu who gives his 100% efforts to satisfy the directors once again did his best but they go in vain due to the mediocre screenplay. To sum up, Spyder is another disappointment for Mahesh Babu.

Tollywood Prince Mahesh Babu and Rakul Preet Singh starring scientific thriller movie Spyder is all set for a grand release worldwide on September 27th. The film got U/A certificate from the censor board. AR Murugadoss is the director for this flick. The hero as the social angst-driven executioner is nothing new to South cinema. A.R. Murugadoss’ Spyder is almost a safe bet after his last experimental Akira. But credit to him and his team for packaging something racy for the blockbuster-starved film audiences in a year that has been a death-knell for hero-worshipping scripts.

Despite having a popular leading man in Mahesh Babu, the hero of Spyder is the script, which is probably as intelligible as it can get in mainstream cinema. As with other such ‘masala’ films (as they are called popularly), logic takes a backseat and at times completely disappears.

First Half has lil bit drag but 2nd half is full on Racy. Top-notch technicians in cinematographer Santhosh Sivan and editor Sreekar Prasad have shouldered their responsibilities well. Music director Harris Jayaraj, though, seems to have had a surprisingly off-time with the songs. The background music is apt though it is significantly reminiscent of several popular scores.

Mahesh Babu has done his best to appear the part of a hero who combines brain with brawn. The song-and-dance and the stunts sequences bring out the best in him. But in this outing, he has toned down his humour, and rightfully too. His Fans will go gaga over him. Rakul Preet looking beautiful & acts well. Good acting by all supporting actors.
