The latest bit of news churned out of the rumour mill says that real life couple Kamal Haasan and Gauthami may work together again onscreen as husband and wife in the Tamil remake of Malayalam super hit Drishyam!
Apparently, actress Meena who played the original role in Malayalam was the first choice but as it didn’t pan out for various reasons, the offer has now been extended to Gauthami. The yesteryear actress and wife of the Universal Hero has been making a comeback into the film world recently as she has been designing costumes for Kamal’s movies.
The duo have delivered several hits in Kollywood years ago, and Drishyam (the Tamil version) sounds like it could be the perfect vehicle for their re entry as an onscreen couple.
The actress, according to sources, may say yes to the project as there are no obvious reasons for her to reject it. The story too, after all, relies a lot on the chemistry and the believability of the husband and wife characters.
It is also worth remembering at this point that Meena did win a Kerala State Film Award for Best Actress for her performance in the original version. Sounds like quite the opportunity for Gauthami, yes?
The Tamil remake is to be directed by Jeetu Joseph himself and is set in Tirunelveli.
It wouldn’t, however, launch until Kamal Haasan finishes his current projects Uttama Villain and Viswaroopam 2.
The original Malayalam version of the movie has become the biggest one in Mollywood histroy breaking all the records, though if recent news is anything to go by, Anjali Menon’s youth hit Bangalore Days is on its way to topping it.
