A local court in Chennai has issued summons to the director and the producer of Rajinikanth-starrer Endhiran (Robot in Telugu) on a complaint alleging that the duo committed offences under the Copyright Act.
The court asked the duo to appear before it on June 24.
Tamil writer Aarur Tamilnadan filed the complaint before the Metropolitan Magistrate of Egmore seeking a direction to punish them under the Copyright Act and for cheating.
Tamilnadan said that he wrote a short story Jugiba which was published in a Tamil monthly magazine Iniya Udayam in April 1996.
He claimed that Endhiran was nothing but his story and its director S Shankar and producer Kalanithi Maran, managing director of Sun Pictures Private Ltd, had violated the copyright act by using his story.
Tamilnadan said though he submitted a complaint to police, it was treated as closed. The police did not give anything in writing, he charged.
Because of the "influential background" of the director and producer, police were reluctant to register a case, he alleged.(PTI)
