Sonia picks Jagan, KVP in AP panel

The Congress president, Mrs Sonia Gandhi, on Friday constituted a nine-member coordination committee for the state in the midst of the agitation over bifurcation of the state.

Significantly, Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy, the son of Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, finds a place in the panel, as does YSR’s confidant and state adviser, Dr K.V.P. Ramachandra Reddy.

The committee has four representatives each from the Andhra and Telangana regions and will be headed by the Congress incharge for AP, Mr Veerappa Moily. Its primary job is to coordinate between the government and the party.

The other committee members are the Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, the tourism minister, Dr Geeta Reddy, the former ministers, Mr Jana Reddy and Mr Shabbir Ali, Mr K.S. Rao, MP and state Congress president, Mr D. Srinivas. Such panels exist in all Congress-ruled states, and there was one when YSR was chief minister. The timing of the announcement and the new additions came as surprise.(DC)
