Shakthimaan turns villain!

It was reported some days ago that Mukesh Khanna, TV’s Shakthimaan himself, will be playing a pivotal role in Mammootty’s upcoming movie Rajadhi Raja. Well, now we have reports rolling in that the yesteryear superhero will be playing the antagonist in the film. Yes, that’s right folks, the evergreen good guy is turning to the dark side in this one!

Shakthimaan-Villain

Mukesh Khanna rose to fame as Bheeshma in BR Chopra’s Mahabharat, but it was Shakthimaan which premiered in the mid 90s that made him a household name. The superhero avatar was so popular with children that the show still remains the most popular one in Indian television history.

The actor had also played important roles in many Bollywood movies, many of which had him play a man in uniform – either the respectable police officer or the brave soldier. In fact, he is playing a army man again in JP Dutta’s Border 2, the sequel to the hugely successful original.

Now, about Rajadhi Raja..

The film is going is being directed by Ajay Vasudevan, the debutant director who previously served as an assistant to Shafi. It stars Raai Lakshmi, formerly known as Lakshmi Rai, in the female lead.

The flick has been touted as a mass entertainer with family oriented themes. Mammootty plays Shekharan Kutty, a restaurant owner and Raai plays his wife, Radha. The couple have a daughter named Durga.

There is promised to be a humour element in this movie, and the supporting cast includes Joy Mathew and Jojo. Unni Mukundan will be making a cameo appearance.

Mammootty and Raai have paired up in hits like Annan Thambi and Chattambinadu before. So let’s hope this one too repeats the success.

The film is slated for an Onam release and the shooting is in progress, and the main locations have been reported as Pollachi, Hyderabad and Mumbai.
