Director Sekhar Kammula may have arrived with his film Anand, ‘oka manchi coffee lanti cinema’ and would have continued to connect with Telugu middle class lives with his films Godavari, Happy Days and Life is Beautiful. But the director definitely lacks the ‘zing’ factor to deliver a commercial hit. He had the best of resources and a spectacular frame like Rana for the film ‘Leader’ but Sekhar could not render into commercial values, thanks to his rigid thought process, close mindedness and extra large preachy attitude. Well, this is one Industry that runs on high entertainment and the box office numbers mostly, so definitely a high time for Mr Kammula to work on his ‘commercial’ take. The director will soon present ‘Anamika’, a remake of Bollywood blockbuster starring Nayantara in the lead. Given that the Hindi version rattled the ancestors out of big directors who went awestruck with its fantastic treatment and Vidya’s stellar performance, this better work well commercially for the man who is the face of middle class values.
