Ranveer Singh to learn Marathi

Ranveer Singh, who is set to play the role of a Maratha general Bajirao in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani, now plans to improve his Marathi speaking skills. The actor has roped in a Marathi tutor for the same.

“Ranveer would have to get his language and diction completely right. The director doesn’t want a hue and cry over the language being mispronounced. Ranveer is already familiar with Marathi and can even speak the language. But for this role he needs to get the nuances and layering right” said a source close to the film crew.

Director Bhansali will fine tune Ranveer’s skills in speech and action well in advance before they start the shooting in November.

“Ranveer needs to look convincing as a Maratha warrior. He also needs to acquire a more sombre image than the one he has. SLB has asked Ranveer to control his nervous energy off screen and use it for the role” confirmed the source.

It has to be noted that Ranveer has been having problems adapting to various dictions. His earlier struggle with Ram Leela trying to master the Gujarati diction is very well known. More and more young actors now resort to special training to get the accent right. The same thing happened with Aditya Roy Kapoor in Daawat E Ishq, where the actor had to immensely work on his Urdu diction. Others like Ayushmann Khurrana and Sushant Singh Rajput have also been focussing on their accents in Marathi and Bengali for their respective projects.
