Prithvi Raj Chavan is Maharashtra’s new CM

After sacking Ashok Chavan as CM in the wake of the Adarsh Housing Society Scam, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi named 64-year-old Prithviraj Chavan as the next CM of Maharashtra. The Congress Legislature Party has authorized Mrs. Gandhi to name its new leader and Mr. Chavan was chosen this morning. The news has been officially declared by Finance Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherjee at in New Delhi today morning. Pranab was there along with A K Antony to elicit their opinion in choosing the new CM. Mr. Chavan was in the race for the CM along with Sushil Kumar Shinde and Vikhe Patil as soon as Ashok Chavan offer of resignation was accepted. Chavan has won in three Lok Sabha elections and and has been a central minister and the Minister of State in Prime Minister’s office prior to his election by the CLP as the new CM.
