Kanan (Suraj Sharma) comes from Canada to India as his family fix his marriage with his childhood friend Anu (Mehreen Phirzada). He don’t like this idea of marriage as he believe he is not so ready to take up responsibilities that comes in addition to marriage. Just before the marriage, he is forced to marry a tree as he is “Manglik” which means something bad will happen if he marry. The tree is possessed by Shashi (Anushka Sharma) who is waiting to unite with her lover Roop (Diljit Dosanjh). The ghost, Shashi, starts creating hurdles in the life of Kanan after his marriage with that tree. How he get rid of that? Does he really marry Anu after that? How Phillauri and Shashi unite? These questions form the rest of the story.

Cast and Performance

Anushka Sharma as Shashi is fantastic. She lived in that role and made it believable to the audience. She is termed as one of the good actors now in bollywood and she lives upto that with the performance she gave for the role of Shashi. She also looks extremely gorgeous. Diljit Dosanjh as Roop is superb and he delivered good performance for the role. The chemistry between Anushka Sharma and him is so natural. Suraj Sharma as Kanan is nice and he made his scenes extremely humorous with his facial expressions. Mehreen Phirzada as Anu is cute and she is also good in her role. All other actors performed to the extent of their roles.

Verdict

Phillauri is the story consisting of two love stories set in two different periods like pre-independence era and one at present. One is of Roop and Sashi who are a singer and a poet set in pre-independence era and other is of Kanan and Anu which are linked in a funny and interesting way. It goes on a funny way but the first half is not so entertaining from the word go, but it shines only when Anushka Sharma enters the scene. She is the only savior of the first half and screenplay does not make any impact in this half and it becomes interesting during pre-interval and it becomes more engaging and touching in the second half with the love story of Roop and Shashi. To sum up, Phillauri is Anushka Sharma’s show all the way which has it’s moments to enjoy.
