Pakistan seems annoyed over the US backing for India for a permanent berth at the United Nations Security Council. A disappointed Pakistani government in a press meeting held at Islamabad slammed the US over the move, and claimed that the US’ decision to support India would affect the peace and stability in South Asia. The Cabinet, chaired by the Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani expressed its serious concern and strong disappointment over the decision of the US to support India for a permanent seat at the UNSC. The Security Council is considered as the UN’s most important decision-making body, and the cabinet claimed that it was incomprehensible for the US to support India. Shortly after Obama announced his support for India at the India Parliament, Pakistani Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir conveyed Islamabad’s disappointment over the development to the US envoy Mr. Cameron Munter.
