Resul says he has handed over the story to Bachchan and he loves it. Now he’s just waiting to hear from the legendary actor regarding the availability of his dates.
The gifted audio engineer, won his academy award for Slumdog Millionaire, but says the Oscars are for American or western movies, not for the Indian film industry.
“They are best suited for Hollywood movies. Indian cinema is different. We have a mutual respect for the western cinema, but we work differently. We have diverse cultures and we make movies in over 52 languages.” Pookutty said. He also was awarded the BAFTA for Slumdog Millionaire.
Now, the rookie director and Padmashri recipient, thrilled with his maiden venture in to Bollywood with a Hindi film that could star Bachchan himself, is awaiting confirmation from the actor and hopes to make a formal announcement soon. It is to be noted that Pookutty got his big break in the industry, in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2005 motion picture Black, which also starred Bachchan in the lead.
Resul last worked in Mollywood in the Mammootty starrer Kunjananthante Katha, which was a worthy participant in many acclaimed film festivals and brought home laurels despite failing to make an impact at the box office. The movie was directed by Salim Ahamad. Resul had, prior to that, worked in the 2010 epic Malayalam film Pazhassi Raja which starred Mammootty and had been honored with a National Award for the same.
It is now rumored that Resul has signed on for another, yet unknown Malayalam project to be launched in the near future.
