A Tulane University post-doctoral fellow in chemistry died after a car struck him as he rode his bicycle about six blocks away from his home Thursday afternoon in New Orleans, LA. Chandrasekhar Vavilala, 36, was pedaling down South Claiborne Avenue about 6:30 p.m. when a car struck him at the intersection of Adams Street.
Vavilala, a native of Ongole known as “Chandu,” is survived by wife Smt. Anasuya Kolavennu and a 4-year-old daughter. He earned a Ph.D in chemistry at a university in Germany before moving to the United States in 2007. He was working as a Research Scholar in the Department of Chemistry with Prof. Robert Pascal at Tulane University in New Orleans.
“Chandu was not only a very talented lab chemist, but he had many new chemical ideas,” Pascal said. “He always provided me new publications for new experiments to try. My lab lost perhaps its most creative individual.”
